We Remember

WOLF, Hans

January 19, 1930 — May 14, 2018

We regret to announce the passing of Hans at the age of 88 on Monday, May 14, 2018.  Hans was born in Leutershausen, Germany on January 19, 1930.

He was predeceased by father, Johann Wolf, mother Katherina (nee Appold), sister Lydia Beierle (nee Wolf), brothers Georg and Fritz and grandson Kyle Hunt.  He is survived by his wife Caroline (nee Glendenning), daughters Glenda Thompson (Robert) and Cynthia Jackson (Lee), grandchildren Ryan Hunt, Karita Hunt (Augusto), Chantelle and Deserae, 2 great-grandchildren Lilja and Damien, brother Karl Wolf and many nieces and nephews.

Hans at 15 years old had to fight on the German side for about 6 months. After the war, he was a camp guard for the US Army Base, then left for Canada on board the Italian ship “Vulcania” and arrived in Canada in 1951 and worked in bush camps in Ontario and on Vancouver Island.

Hans met his wife Caroline (Carrie) at a dance hall on Hastings Street in Vancouver and they married on October 3, 1953 and had 2 daughters, Glenda and Cynthia.  He received his Canadian Citizenship Certificate in March 1957.

Hans joined the army in 1957 and retired from service in 1979 (22 ½ years) in the rank of Sgt. During these years in army life he was posted to Whitehorse, YT, Ottawa, ON, Cobourg, ON, 3 years in Germany in the town of Viersen and then back to Chilliwack, BC. The family then lived in North Vancouver, Dunster, BC and finally Kelowna, BC where he lived in retirement till his death on May 14, 2018. Hans was a good provider and generous to his family.
