We Remember

WOYTUCK, David (Dave)

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 59.  Dave is survived by his son Jason (Tanya Campbell) of Calgary and daughter Jody Pichler, and their mother Darlene; and grandchildren Tyler Woytuck-Pichler, and Brandon and Nicholas (Nicky) Pichler.  He is predeceased by his daughter Melody in 2008, and his brother Allen in 2015.  For many years, Dave could be found at a fair or at the Flintstones Theme Park drawing caricatures.  He started with large wooden signs, then went on to create signs of all sorts. One of his pieces includes the Alaska Highway Mile “0” monument located in Dawson Creek, B.C. After 10 years of making signs, he moved on to other art forms after attending Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek, where he not only taught teachers, but continued learning, as well. It was here that his artistry really exploded.  He created Sunday cartoons in the weekend newspaper and cartoon maps of Kelowna and surrounding areas among other projects. Dave’s artwork even graced the cover of a local phone book. His talent will be seen and appreciated by many for years to come.

  • Elizabeth Harley says:

It was so sad to hear about Dave’s passing. I got to know him while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He was very friendly and optimistic about his health. He had a good sense of humour even in the last few weeks as he became weaker. Condolences to his family.

  • Shiree Sherriden says:

So sorry to all Dave’s family and friends for their loss. I have known Dave for over fifteen years, we were both friends and neighbors, I am heart-broken over his passing, I will miss him more then words can say. Rest in peace my dear friend. <3 Always your friend Shiree

  • Suzanne says:

To all who loved Dave and cared for him ,especially the marvellous team in Kelowna General and the amazing team in Vancouvers 12b . What a wonderful Man Dave was. He cared for everyone even when he was in huge pain and worried about how everyone was right to the end.
He taught me a great deal about courage and unconditional love.
I hope he’s camping and fishing and running around wondering the universe now.
You are forever with me my Love

  • Kathryn Abney says:

Dave was a very special friend who I miss terribly. I traveled with him several times to Vancouver when he needed me. We had many adventures during those trips. I will treasure the memories of our time together always. I truly loved Dave. My heart aches for his family and friends.

It is with much sadness that we learned of Dave’s passing. We did not know him as well as we should have, nevertheless, we are saddened by his early demise. What a trooper….survivor!!! Against all odds he was able to contribute so much to the world he left behind. Our sympathies to the family, may God give you His peace and comfort as you journey through this time of sadness…Aunt Anne & Uncle Leo

  • Rachel says:

My relationship with Dave was special. We had many heart to heart talks; he called me his favourite Aunt.
It was obvious to me that he cared deeply for his family and friends. Always wanting the best for them. He faced his health challenges bravely with gratitude for all who cared for him. He shared his website with me. I was amazed at his talent as a portrait artist of subjects, many of the furry variety. The perspective he has now is beyond our wildest imaginations. He knew God loved him.

  • Marilyn Byfield says:

We were saddened to learn of Dave’s passing after a very courageous fight. He was always so positive on regards to his health and we will miss his smiling face at our support group. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Marilyn Byfield and the Okanagan Pre & Post Organ Transplant Support Group.

  • Carol says:

I got to know David while working in Ambulatory Care, KGH. David’s smile and gentleness I remember well. He had some difficult issues with his health, and as nurses we were all concerned. Then came the great day that he was to have a transplant, there was such joy in the department. Then the waiting to hear how he was managing post surgery. One day he arrived in the department, his huge smile filled the department, there were hugs all around. I saw David only one time following my retirement. In my nursing career, there are only a few patients that impacted my life, that I still remember to this day, David is one of those patients. To David’s family, I send my sincere condolences. Carol W.

  • Cheryl Skipper says:

Sorry for your loss as I pray for peace and healing in the family.

  • Darren Baker says:

I didn’t know Dave very well, but he was a good guy and always willing to help you out if he could. Dave lived just down the hall from me at The Burtches for the past few years. My mother Ruby also lives at The Burtches, and a couple years ago she fell in her suite. I couldn’t get her back on her feet by myself so thought “who could I ask to help me?” Dave came to mind right away and he was happy to help me get her up off the floor, just as he was happy to help me move something on a couple other occasions too. I know he struggled during cold & flu season (as I do) and we are both so sad that he has passed. My mother and I are sorry we could not make his Celebration of Life yesterday; my chronic illness does not allow me to get out for anything on most days. I wish I had a better day yesterday so I could see some of the artwork that Dave has done. I wasn’t aware of the artistic talents Dave possessed.

So my mother Ruby and I send our condolences now to Dave’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.

  • Cam Manning says:

Dave is a friend of mine from childhood in Saskatchewan. Many great memories as kids. I had the privilege of seeing Dave’s artistic skills grow from animation on the corners tabs of his note books in grade school to the fine pen & ink photographic like drawings of recent years. I always loved Dave’s dry humour and his choice of words, kind of his own lingo using phases you knew only Dave would use. I was blessed to reconnect with Dave here in Kelowna over the last 20 years. We shared many nights watching UFC fights together or dinners on my deck, lots of great laughs and sorrows too. To Dave’s family my condolences to you, may God’s peace and Love speak to your hearts in this time, know that Dave Woytuck was a great Friend to me, amazing artist and wonderful company to be with.

  • Petrine Paquette says:

Dave and I met years ago when he showed up on a whim at a sold out art show and charmed the coordinator into letting him have a spot outside to draw his caricatures. I was ticked since all the other vendors had applied months previously to be in the show. But Dave’s quick wit and deep warm voice convinced me that he was “special” and soon had me laughing at the situation. This was the start of a long friendship full of much laughter. Dave’s vast knowledge made for interesting conversations that were always injected with his intelligent, unique and endearing sense of humour. He loved to fish and be in nature and impressively built a boat so he could do that. The courage, tenacity and optimism that he showed when facing his many health obstacles provided me with many teachable moments. His artistic ability was just crazy good! There was a lot to love about Dave. I feel blessed to have known him. He’ll always hold a place in my heart. RIP my friend. Condolences to his family.

  • Jody Pichler(WOYTUCK) says:

I miss you dad. So much has happened. One day we will have coffee and chat at the bridge bench.
