We Remember

YOUNG, Charles William

June 6, 1952 — April 9, 2017

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Charles on April 9, 2017. He will be forever missed by his wife, Connie, his son Taylor from Vancouver, BC, his sons Jarrett and Carter from Kelowna, BC, his brothers Jerome (Val), Jay (Sharon), and Warren (Regina) from New York and his sisters Loretta and Juanita from New York.  Charles will also be missed by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nephews and nieces in Canada, New York and Bali.  Charles is predeceased by his mother Annie, father Jake, brothers Paul and Artie and nephew Mario of New York.  He will also be missed by many colleagues and friends.

Charles was born in Queens, NY on June 6, 1952. He moved from New York to Canada in 1980.  He worked as a youth and family counsellor both in New York and throughout his years in Canada.  Charles’ love for the youth and children in the community was highly evident not only through the work that he loved to do, but also through the many years he volunteered his time with West Kelowna Minor Hockey.  He also enjoyed coaching and mentoring his sons in their various sports through the years.

Charles was passionate about food and cooking. Anyone who knew him appreciated and enjoyed the wonderful meals and dishes that he would create with such love. The most important thing to Charles was always his family. His greatest joy was to be with his sons and his wife.

    Dear family,
I am So sorry you have lost another loved one so soon after Miss Ruth’s transition. I remember Charles from 40-15 in Queensbridge. He, like so many of the others, was one of the “big brothers” in the building.
I want you to know, your loss is our loss. Your pain is our pain. As we are family. I am praying for all of you. Blessings. #QB4LIFE

    Dear Charlie,
As I sit here thinking about you and how it is great having you as my big brother. You have motivated me to become a strong individual. Growing up with you was really a blast. Charlie’s brother was my second name. I took for granted that you would always be around. You are now back to your vibrant self and at peace. Tell mom, Paul, Artie, and Mario hello, missing you. With much love Always, Your brother, Jerome.

  • Julia Young says:

    Dear Uncle Charlie,
The passing of a loved one is never easy to accept, but I will take comfort in knowing that you are now at rest. Pain, hurt, or discomfort you will experience no more, but now my heart is still heavy thinking about the life you lived and more. I know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, but it’s not easy saying goodbye this once more. I will remember your smile, kindness, laughter, and not to mention your coolness no matter what was going down. I will cherish the time we spent together last summer including hanging in Brooklyn enjoying the sights and sounds. Plus, the talks, we shared about Game of Thrones, and how life should be enjoyed here and now. Going to the SEA will never be the same, as I will always think of you. I just want to say that I am blessed to have had an Uncle like you. Thank you for being a great big brother to my Dad, and for showing us all how to live and love. Give Grandma a big hug for me, and I’m blowing kisses to Heaven for you both with love. Love you always and forever, your Niece Julia R. Young

  • Isaiah Young says:

You know , I was always too young to know you alot Unc, but the time that we did share together and moments around each other as well as the family were always special… From the times of us just sitting around watching tv and cracking jokes even if we were the only ones in the room to understand and to hear you talk about trump and fantasy football all day lol, those are moments that are cherished. We were all lucky enough to have you in our lives and always a sad day to lose a loved one , but we must celebrate the life of someone who even my father looked up to. I know Nana is with you right now as you guys look down on all of us, will always be in our hearts, love you Unc.

  • Bunny says:
