BOYCE, Blanche (nee BURCHELL)

Of Kelowna, BC, passed away peacefully at Sutherland Hills Rest Home on July 9, 2014 at the age of 89 years.

Blanche was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 2, 1925.  She was the ninth of nine children born to Alfred and Jennie (Weir) Burchell.  In childhood, her family moved to Sydney, NS, where she went to Ashby School and Sydney Academy.  There she met Ken Boyce, and they were married in 1952 and raised three children in Sydney.  She is predeceased by Ken, who passed away on February 8, 2006, and by her brothers Albert, Charles, Maurice, and Harold, and her sisters Helen Ferguson, Reta Gass, Alice Shakespeare, and Minette Buchanan.  She will be dearly missed by her children, Judy, David (Cathy Ann Jameson), and Peter (Brenda Hazelwood) and her three grandchildren Andrew, Emma, and Laura Boyce.

Blanche will be remembered in Sydney as a great mother and friend, an avid bridge player, and a regular on the walking trails with Ken.  They relocated to Kelowna, BC in 2002 and enjoyed several years there together. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of the Sutherland Hills Rest Home and special thanks to Dr. Diana Imrie and Dr. Dan Obedkoff for their superb care and support.  A private service will be held in Kelowna.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.
