We Remember

BRANDT-HJELTE, Jennie

Jennie died peacefully on June 30, 2014 at the Cottonwoods Care Home in Kelowna.  She was 95 years of age.  Born in the Kayville, SK district in 1919.  Jennie is predeceased by four sisters, two brothers, her first husband Sigmund Brandt and her second husband Henry Hjelte.

She is survived by her sister Florence Jackson of Langley, BC; brother Lenard Vakenti (Lenora) of Chilliwack, BC; daughter Pauline Krause of Regina; son Larry Brandt (Georgina) of Kelowna; grandsons: Kevin Kozack (Salmera) of Saskatoon, Daryle Kozack of Regina, Marty (Michelle) Brandt of Calgary, Mike Brandt of Ottawa and great grandchildren: Dana Brandt, Maddux Brandt, Curtis Kozack, and Jay Kozack.

Jennie and Sigmund lived in various parts of Canada while Sigmund was in the Air Force during the Second World War.  After the war, they settled in Kayville, SK and operated a grocery store and garage business called, Kayville Motors and Machine Works.  In 1960 they closed the business and moved to Regina.  Jennie worked in the office for Sherwood Co-op and was quite proud that she learned how to operate the billing computer.  She retired from Sherwood in 1981.  Jennie loved to travel and visited Europe, USA and Bermuda.  Her other passion was the activities and achievements of her grandchildren.  She moved to Kelowna in 2004 to an independent living facility and was there until her illness in 2010.  The family thanks the staff at Cottonwoods Care Home and Dr. Gore for their care and compassion.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 10:00 am at the Regina Funeral Home, Highway #1 East, Regina, SK.  Interment will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, next to her husband Sigmund.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”
