We Remember

CRANE, (Margaret) Ann

December 3, 1921 — October 29, 2014

Ann Crane left us this week in her 92nd year. She was born in Elk Point, Alberta to Dr. Fred and Cora Miller. She, and her brothers George, Jim and Richard and sister Joanne enjoyed a rich family and community life. Ann graduated from high school at 16 and went on to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Public Health Nurse in Vancouver’s downtown east side. She met her life partner David Crane, when he returned from WWII and they followed Dave’s golf career from Vancouver to Langley, and finally Kelowna where they lived for the rest of their days. She was an ardent sports fan, with much enthusiasm particularly for the Canucks, Blue Jays and the BC Lions.

Her caring and compassionate nature was evident in her love for her family, her community, her Avon customers, her friends and not to mention complete strangers.

Ann was predeceased by her husband David Buchanan Crane in 1991. She is survived by daughters Nancy (Greg) McKinstry, Marjorie (David and his children Kaylan, Shay) Horne, Jean (Stephen) Bryans and Trudy Crane (Patrice Leroux), her brother Richard Miller, grandchildren Adam, Philip, Jessica, Aimee and Chloe. The family would like to especially recognize the Westbank Palliative Care team, the staff of the Central Okanagan Hospice House and Sutherland Hills Rest Home. The special care of Gabe Mackintosh, Sandie Marsh and Dr. Paul Hart meant a tremendous amount to both Mom and the family over these last few months. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel St, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z6.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 1 PM at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna.

    Dearest girls, my heart is broken for you all. No matter how old we children are, losing your Mom is one of life’s most poignant moments.
    Ann was amongst the feistiest women I have ever known, with a ready smile and a warmth to make you feel loved.
    I have many fond memories of our many family visits and as a child I was in awe of the movie-star good looks of both your Mom and Dad.
    Know you and all your families are in my heart, and in my prayers, as you go through this journey.
    I imagine Ann and Betty up in Heaven, laughing about the good old days, and cheering on their favorite Teams.

    To this day ; I think of your Mom as I hang a cloth soaked with “Skin So Soft” to keep the mosquitoes away. Works every time!
    Her warm smile will always be remembered just as she will always be missed. Our thoughts and love to all. The Bowdens.

    Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. Though I never got to meet her in person, I know her family legacy has produced many great people and I am very blessed to call one of them my friend.

    To the wonderful family of Ann Crane: thank you for trusting me with your mothers’ care for the past 23 months. Your Mom was a wonderful person, caring, loving, kind, wise and feisty. She gave me so much more than I ever could have given her. She became a best friend to me. I’ll never forget her and treasure the happy memories I have of her.     I was so sorry to hear about Auntie Ann. I’m very disappointed that I could not be at her service but I’m so glad that you posted it online so that i was able to watch it here in Madrid. So moving to be able to share that with you from so far away. Thanks.

    Ann was my neighbor “down the lane” for 30 years and was a delight to know . I had many times spent with her at her kitchen table with a cup of coffee,cookies and Kaylie the dog.. We had so many wonderful conversations – she had such a depth of love for God and family – she inspired me in many ways. I have missed her since she left our neighborhood but will fondly remember her always. What peace I have to know she is with Jesus – fully loved, fully safe.
