We Remember

GILBERT, Jason Bruce

— December 15, 2014

Gilbert, Jason Bruce passed away peacefully with his family by his side to start his next adventure on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the age of 61. He will be missed by his daughters: Kerri (Noah Fahlgren) of St Louis, MO and Justine (Ian McBain) of Toronto ON and their mother Shirley; sisters: Donna (Gerry) Lapierre and Sharon Lovely, both of Kelowna and the Lapierre and Lovely families; and sister-in-law Brenda of Abbotsford. Sadly predeceased by his parents Donald and Gloria and his brother Bryson.

Our dad knew how to dream big. We would marvel at how the world must look through his eyes – filled with big ideas, creative plans and endless possibilities. You just had to try – no wait, never try – only do. His iron clad will and dogged determination were incredible forces of nature, and it was these forces that moulded his fiercely independent spirit – a spirit that always seemed larger than life and was always ready for the next adventure.

To him, life was about creating and sharing stories. With only one life to live you must live every moment to its fullest. In his 61 years, he lived more lives than many people read in books. His ability to jump into the unknown was awe-inspiring and was possible because he had such a strong will – through sheer will power he knew he could shape the outcome. His love of cars, guitars and motorcycles was also driven by his lust for life – apart from being vehicles for his artistic and creative flare, they were also means of escape.

Throughout all of his adventures he maintained an incredibly generous spirit. He strongly believed in giving back to his community and protecting his loved ones – what was his, was anyone’s, should they be in need. We are lucky to have been loved by such a man. We miss you dad and we will never stop loving you.

  • Justine says:

When I was in grade school I got grounded for an entire summer. After a month of enduring my sentence the Ex came to town. I wanted to go SO bad but I was grounded. But cause Dad could never stay mad at me for long he decided to sneak me out of the house – better to ask for forgiveness then permission. We spent the whole day at the fair together eating junk food, going on rides and playing games. My dream had always been to win one of the BIG toys but I sucked at most games. I did have some basic skill when it came to popping balloons. So Dad and I stayed at the balloon stand popping balloons until finally my luck changed! I won! I was awarded the great privilege of stepping back and having a stuffed polar bear, that was about half my size, tossed at me. I was so happy! As popping balloons rarely results in big wins I always wondered at my amazing luck that day. Years later dad spilled the beans – he had slipped the guy 100 bucks to let me win. Miss you Dad and I love you even more.

  • Donna Lapierre says:

I will miss my big brother so much. He had a heard of gold and a mind full of creation and ideas. When I was doing crossword puzzles he said he’d rather be making them. He loved his family and they meant the world to him, especially his daughters. He never ceased to amaze me with his ideas and interesting life stories. RIP Brother.

Justine – just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed reading through the condolences, the memories and seeing pictures of your dad and family over the years. Knowing what an amazing person you are I am not surprised that your dad was such a special person and father. So sorry for your loss – much love to you and family.
