Jakubowski, Mona Marie
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
JAKUBOWKSI, Mona Marie passed away after a short, but courageous battle with lung cancer, on March 23, 2015 at the age of 62. Survived by her loving husband Stan Jakubowski; daughter Nadean Jakubowski and son Ryan Jakubowski both of Airdrie, AB; sister Karen Row (Leslie) and brother Terry Anderson (Shirley) all of Lethbridge, AB; brother David Anderson (Lisa) of Nobelford, AB; as well as seven nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Fred and Pat Anderson. Mona was the youngest child of Fred and Pat Anderson. She grew up on the family farm located east of the Village of Barons, Alberta. Mona attended the Barons School (primary grades), graduated high school from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and received a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge. While attending university, she met and married her husband on September 23, 1972. They had two children, a daughter and son, which she adored. After moving throughout Alberta, the family settled in Calgary, where Mona taught grades 5 and 6 for the Calgary Public School Board; retiring in August 2005. Stan and Mona moved to Kelowna in August 2014 as part of their retirement plans. Although Mona only lived in Kelowna for a short time, she made it very clear she did not regret the move and only felt a great sadness not being able to experience the Okanagan more fully. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I was deeply saddened when I heard that Mona had passed. I first met Mona in my first year as a teacher, and she made an enormous impression on me. She was a rock I could lean on in that chaotic first year – smart, big-hearted, generous with her time. I was going to say that she took no guff, but no one offered her any – she had that kind of presence to her. We are all very lucky to have had her in our lives. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss.

We are so sorry for your loss.Please accept our deepest sympathies. Even though we had never met Mona, we can imagine how strong and wonderful she must have been to raise two great kids like Ryan and Nadean. Ryan has been part of our family for the past 17 years. Our wish is that passage of time will heal the pain and the treasured memories of the time you shared together will give you strength.

I so enjoyed working as an aide in Mona’s classes at Cecil Swanson school, though many years have passed since then. She cared so much for her students and was very kind and helpful to us support staff. She gave me a Christmas decoration one year that I still hang on my tree. My thoughts are with you, the family.

My first year teaching at Rundle School was Mona’s last. She was such a wonderful mentor to me during that first year of trial and error and I’ll never forget her supportive, humourous spirit. She was such a wonderful person and I am truly sorry for your loss. I pray that God will be with you at this time and that her life will be remembered by the many who’s hearts she touched throughout her life.
I taught with Mona at Cecil Swanson School. I enjoyed her sense of humour and caring rapport with students. Mona was a dedicated teacher and a wonderful friend. My thoughts are with the family during this time of sorrow.

Dear Stan: Just heard the news this weekend and very sad to learn that Mona passed suddenly. I only knew you and your family briefly. It was a pleasure getting to know your family: Mona, your daughter and son while I worked as your protege in Unit B Kensington Road. Remember when we went camping as a work-unit one weekend? It is a bit fuzzy but I know we were all there, as well as a cat! My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I hope to cross paths with you before too many more years pass. Karen
Please accept my condolences during this difficult time. I was one of Mrs.Jakubowksi’s students at Cecil Swanton in 1994. Mrs. J was such a warm person who actually remembered me when she would run into my mum grocery shopping. We are thankful she shared her spirit with us.
I was a student of Mrs. J at Cecil Swanson in the 90’s. She was my grade 4 teacher and I LOVED her! She was there for me and provided me with so much encouragement and support while my parents were going through a difficult divorce.
My favourite memory of her was story time! She had a voice for every character in the books she read to us! We never wanted her to stop reading!
I was just thinking about Mrs.J and my fond memories of her, as I do every now and again and decided to google her name to see what she was up to and was very saddened to learn of her passing.
I send my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. She will never be forgotten and live on in so many treasured memories by those she touched with her kindness and enthusiasm.
