  • James Atzesberger says:

Mr. King, over the years you were a friend, roommate, hunting teacher/partner, and great crib, snooker, backgammon player. I am going to miss our informal, interesting, sometimes intense discussions. Our numerous chats over the years ranged from Eskimo football games, (of which we two watched many games together) to politics, to music, (you turned me on to some great tunes) to UFO’s and anything making the news that week. I am just so glad we saw a lot of each other these past few months. Life and death are part of a universal journey, we as family members, friends, people and humanity must endeavor to endure. See you my friend. -Jim Atzesberger

    Arluene, Casey and Kyla
We’re very sorry to hear of Al’s passing. Our thoughts are with each and everyone of you during this difficult and trying time.

  • Rhonda Victoor says:

    Al,

I can still see your smile and hear your gentle, calm voice each time you stepped into our office at Okanagan College. As a new manager I was overwhelmed navigating all the ins and outs of the campus. When you and your team would arrive to set up for an event, I could feel your calm energy and it would reassure me. Thank you for that.

Years later, when I returned to campus to lead a workshop, it was a joy to connect again. I am grateful to have known you Al, and to forever know the impact you had. Today I send love and light to you Al, and to you Arluene my friend.

    Rhonda Victoor

  • Darlene Green says:

Al and the family hold a special place in our hearts and our memories run deep with the many, many times we shared together as close neighbours and friends. Hugs and prayers to one and all at this time!

  • Diane Hunter says:

Arluene, Casey and Kyla. I am so sorry to hear of Allan’s passing, but knowing that he was so loved, happy and respected in his life eases the sorrow. I think I am his oldest cousin and remember him in his youth with great fondness.

    Diane Hunter (nee Scown)

  • Ken Andrusiak says:

Al: I only knew you for the past 4 years but I learned so much from your calm reassuring nature that I have tried to transfer your strengths to my own life. That, I believe is the sign of a great man. UBCO misses you deeply as do I. On Monday when I heard the news of your passing I got in my truck and drove to the highest elevation on campus, to silently remember our time together. I’m sure you were there with me. Goodbye my friend

  • Fern Schmidt says:

  • Randy and Michele King says:

    My Brothers Gone
We were brothers for most of our years but
    Time and life interfered I
Was stubborn and he was too and
We butted heads like brothers do but Honest to God he never left my mind I
Thought of him all the time but
I could never set aside my
    Foolish foolish foolish pride and
Now I’ll never get the chance to
Make it good and mend the fence
    My brother’s gone
I loved you Al my brother dear and
Your family too although I fear that
None of you ever knew just how much I thought of you now
My final prayer is that you’ll see how
Very much you meant to me
    My brother’s gone.

  • Jenn & Denn Golinski says:

    Dear Arluene, Casey and Kyla,

We both enjoyed having the opportunity to work with Al over the last few years.

I always enjoyed my time with him, showing him new apps on his iPhone. He’d always ask “Dennis, what’s the app of the week?” We know his legacy will live on at UBCO. So many programs he put in place are used and appreciated every day.

Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

  • Robert and Susan Belton says:

We were very sorry to hear of Al’s passing. He will definitely be remembered, for his many personal touches on the campus of UBCO Okanagan are visible for all to share. He will be sorely missed.

  • Donna & John Harling says:

    Dear Arluene & girls,
We were so very sorry to learn of Al’s passing. Such a huge shock for you. Please know you have our deepest sympathy!

  • Warren McKay says:

There are stories that I still tell of the year I spent working with Al in 1977. His sense of humor and easy laughter were always central in those stories. When I did a “thank you” tour at 45 to visit those who had impacted my life , Al and Arluene were at the top of the list. They welcomed me as an old friend, their hospitality warm and gracious. I was was working with Al when he and Arluene first met. Even in that somewhat rough and tumble environment it was obvious that they were going to be together. My thoughts and condolences go out to you, Arluene, and to your daughters, Casey and Kyla. Al’s thoughtfulness, generosity of spirit and integrity are those gifts he has left me and are treasured. A nip of scotch was a favorite of ours in those working days as the water was less than palatable, so I’ll sit down and slowly let the warm rush of scotch remind me of this gentleman.
