We Remember

LUNIW, Justyna

Just a few days after her 81st birthday on March 30th, Mom’s heart led her to go dance with Dad once again. And, with her last brother moving on in October, it was her time to make sure her six brothers and one sister are all behaving on the other side. Jenny was born in Rochfort Bridge, Alberta and grew up farming until she and Bill married when she was 18. A year later they welcomed their first daughter Patricia with Karen arriving 10 years later to complete the family.

Jenny and Bill bought, built and sold homes in Red Deer, Edmonton and Sherwood Park before settling in Kelowna. Mom’s soul was always in the Prairies but boy, could she grow an amazing garden in Kelowna! She created beautiful, meticulous landscapes at all her homes. Jenny loved to garden, sew, cook, can and clean for her family. She worked hard and relentlessly all her life. Mom’s beautiful smile dimmed a bit with Dad’s passing 10 years ago but she appreciated her first-ever, new found independence. She even got her drivers licence back for a couple of years which put her over the moon. Not a stroke, breast cancer nor broken hip stopped this Energizer Bunny for long. We thought she might even live forever but her hard work made for a tired heart in the end. She spent her last days in the care of the wonderful people at hospice and for that, we, her family, are forever grateful. We’ll miss your smile, your strength, your brilliance and your tenacity Mom.

Jenny leaves behind her loving daughter Patti and her husband Doug along with her grandsons Owen and Leland and grand-dog Cosmo – all of Victoria. She also leaves her loving daughter Karen and her husband Geoff and grand-dogs, Chili and Pepper of Kelowna.

As well, Jenny says ‘so long’ to many friends and family including cousins, nieces and nephews and especially her life-long friends Jessie of Kelowna and Helen of St. Albert.

Jenny was predeceased by her parents, Yustyna and Teodore Bala; sister Mary, brothers, Tony, John, Michael, Peter, Roman (Marvin) and Harry Bala.

Please join us to send Jenny off to dance, laugh and smile again on Monday, April 7th at 9:30 am at Springfield Funeral Home. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, you choose to donate to Kelowna Hospice House and/or BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.      If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”
