We Remember

MARTIN, Donald Henry

Born January 23, 1932 and passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015 at home surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his daughter Heather Ann, his parents Ken and Lenore and his sister Rea Banister. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 60 years Ruby, his children Cecile (Les), Brenda (Randy), Linden (Darla), Stanley (Joanne), his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Clair (Pat), sister Dale and many nieces and nephews.

Dad was born in Arrowwood, AB and grew up and lived in Alberta and B.C. His career revolved around lumber and the sawmills.  He loved the bush, camping and fishing.  Travelling the logging roads up into the mountains looking for a remote lake to catch the big fish was his passion.

In his later years Dad was very involved with his church and his friends in the neighbourhood.  He loved to scoot around on his scooter and did not let his mobility issues slow him down.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the many tireless nurses, aides and the palliative care team who came in to give excellent loving care to Dad and to Mom over the past few months.

A celebration of Don’s life will take place at Lake Country Church, 12025 Oceola Rd, Winfield, BC on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences

  • Judy (Martin) Simmons says:

Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  • Daryl Zoellner says:

To Aunt Ruby and all my cousins,
I would like to express my joy at knowing
Uncle Don was not only the fisherman we all knew but the fisher of men God knows. I am only sad I will not be able to have a picnic at the lake with him in Kelowna this summer. May you share the grace and peace that God promises with each other on Thursday. My memories are of a man of whom my Dad spoke highly as a best friend and brother. Our fathers and uncles served in Primary Industries in BC and Alberta and we will remember how they gave their bodies to work the land.

  • Linda and Mario Molinari says:

We are sorry to hear of the lose of your father, our thoughts ,and prayers are with you during this very hard time.

  • Darlene Kuz says:

    Ruby and family,
I wanted to let you know how sorry Len and myself are for the loss of a very kind and caring man who will be missed by us and everyone who got to know him. We feel blessed to be able to call Don a friend. Don added so much peace and love to Len’s life that I just know that God will give that peace and love back to your family in your time of sorrow.

    Sincerely, Len and Darlene Kuz

  • Dwayne and Brenda Pederson says:

Ruby, Our prayers are with you and your family during this time of sadness. Don was a prayer warrior for Lake Country Church, and he was always kind and thoughtful to everyone. We are so happy that we got to know Don, and we will never forget him. With love and prayers, Pastor Dwayne and Brenda

Ruby and family, you were a rock when my mom passed on 8 years ago, Ken will be up in July, and Ken is a bit jealous Don gets to meet Jesus face to face first. Ephesians 4:22-24 “That you are to put away, in relation to your earlier way of life, the old man, which has become evil by love of deceit; And be made new in the spirit of your mind, And put on the new man, to which God has given life, in righteousness and a true and holy way of living.” See you soon DON

  • Ken, Gene,Phil an Paul Schempp says:

Ruby, are condolences with you we know don is now walking in the streets of gold with his savior by is side. Remember Paul’s words in Philippians 1:21 “for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”
