We Remember

MAURER, Thelma

January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970

Thelma Maurer, 92, of Kelowna, passed away suddenly but peacefully on July 22.

Born in Langley, BC in 1922 to Nellie and Sam Maurer, Thelma spent many happy years in Vancouver. She was a cosmetics consultant at The Bay on Granville for over 30 years. She never married, but was a dear friend to many, a constant support to her mom and dad, and a lifelong companion to beloved late sister Edna and husband John, with whom she shared a duplex in Kelowna for 25 years. Thelma was also a much-loved aunt and great aunt to Heather, Alicia, Julia and Jacques, who will miss her.

Thelma loved to laugh, travelled widely, and welcomed friends and neighbours of all ages into her home and her heart, with cookies and a pot of Red Rose tea. She was generous and kind, and a great listener.

The family extends warm thanks to the thoughtful and professional staff at Joseph Benjamin Residence who made her feel safe and so well cared for in her final years.

The family will greet Thelma’s friends at a tea reception in her honour, to be held Tuesday, August 5th, from 2 to 4 pm at Unit 30 – 625 Boynton Place, Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thelma’s favourite charity, the Make-a-Wish Foundation of BC and Yukon. Condolences

  • Lori Field says:

    Heather and family;

    I’m so sorry for your loss of your Aunt. I’m not sure if you will remember me, I lived next door to your Mom, Dad and Thelma in the late 80’s in the green duplex. Thelma and Edna adopted by kids (Shaylee and Ian) as surrogate grandkids from the beginning and we stayed in touch for many years after we moved. I have such wonderful memories of all of them. Thelma had Shaylee over for tea almost every day when we lived there and we shared Christmas’s, birthdays, easters and other holidays by dropping by for tea and some of your Mom’s wonderful baking. I still have the apron and oven mitts Edna made for Shaylee when she was little. Shaylee has a book of recipes she gave her. Every Christmas when I put the ornaments on my tree I have the honour of having some from both of them and remembering them when I put them up. They were two great ladies who I will never forget. I’m so sorry I didn’t see Thelma in the last couple of years but I do have lots of pictures to remember her by. I will be out of town for the tea, but wish I could be there.
