We Remember

OELRICH, Taylor

It is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of our precious son, Taylor. Born August 26, 1987 in Prince George, BC. Passed away February 15, 2015 in Golden, BC.

As a family we moved to Kelowna in August 1989. Taylor spent many happy times in and on Okanagan Lake; (Paul’s Tomb) Knox Mountain Park and Big White Ski Resort. His gentle, kind nature awarded him many friends. Taylor was an achiever, graduating from UBCO June 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Chemistry. He was recently hired by Baker Hughes in Alberta as an account manager. He was so happy and intensely proud making great plans for his future.

Losing Taylor so soon has filled us with intense sorrow, he will be deeply missed by his parents Randi and George Oelrich of Kelowna, brothers Daniel (Stacy) Oelrich of Calgary, Dexter Oelrich of Kelowna, grandmother Gertrude Dewis of Prince George, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a Celebration of Taylor’s Life at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to Golden District Search and Rescue, Box 1332, Golden, BC V0A 1H0 or a Search and Rescue of your choice. Dear Randi,George, Daniel and Dexter
I am so very sorry for your loss. I will always cherish those days wrestling with the boys in the back yards both on Blodeaux and Bay. The boys truly were like brothers. Taylor will be missed by all.

My condolences to the family and friends of Taylor. I knew Taylor from UBCO. He was my study buddy for an analytic geochemistry course. His passion for his work and his kind heart touched many people including myself. You will be missed.

  • Donna (Distefano) Fooks says:

Dear Randi, George, Daniel & Dexter,
We are so deeply sorry for your loss of Taylor. We will always remember the days when he climbed the big tree in our front yard with all of the kids when they were little on Bay Avenue. It was good to see the fine young man he had grown into when he was at Amanda’s going away party at our house with his casino friends. He was taken way too soon and will be deeply missed. From our family to your family our heartfelt sympathies. Donna, Doug, Amanda & Alex.

  • Amanda Distefano says:

    To the Oelrich family:

My heart is filled with so much sadness, I can hardly imagine what you’re all going through. As one of the kids who grew up on Bay Ave with Taylor, I got to watch him grow up into one of the finest young men I’ve ever been fortunate enough to know. After many years of attending school together and later working together, I can say that you raised a truly kind-hearted, caring man, who made people proud to know him and call him friend. He was a smart, compassionate person who had the whole world ahead of him, and I’m so sorry that he was taken so soon.

It can be so difficult trying to understand how or why these things happen, but what we can know for sure is that we were all blessed for having known him.

Losing someone is never easy, and I hope that with time your hearts can heal and you can once again find peace in knowing that he’ll always be with you.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to all of you. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

    Dear Oelrich family.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Taylor was a great friend of mine, from kindergarten to University, Taylor and I kept in touch. We were best friends while going to Bankhead elementary and continued to be close. After I moved to the north of town, Taylor was the only friend I stayed in contact with. He was always such a happy and softhearted person. He was always smiling and had such a good outlook on life. This tragedy is a reminder of how precious friends and family are. I will always remember Taylor with the upmost elation. From his trampoline in the backyard, playing with his dog bandit, getting beat up by his brothers, all the way to hanging out with him at the casino and university. Taylor was a great man, he would have done great things in life. I will miss him dearly, but his memory will never fade.
