Condolences

I am sorry I could not attend this Memorial but I am presently in Arizona, so I have written what I wanted to say here to be read by Jim at the Memorial so I will be there in spirit and thoughts if not physically.
    > Deb meant a lot to me as we were friends for almost twenty years and shared the good and bad times health together. Deb was a quiet person who kept a lot to herself. She found it hard to express her feelings outwardly to others so kept them inside most the time. In all the years, I have known her, I have never heard her say anything negative about anyone. She always saw the good in everybody and tended to put everyone before herself. She was a caring, loving person that tended to think of others feelings or reactions to something she may have wanted to say or do prior to doing it and always decided on the action that was best for them as opposed to herself.
    > She was the least vain person I have ever known. She was not materialistic or fashion conscience and did not care if she had make up on or if her hair was right or even if she had hair. She was a beautiful person inside and out which is hard to find these days. Her smile was electric and her thoughtfulness and beauty touched all those around her and who knew her. She was one of a kind. She was good mom, wife and friend.
    > Deb worked hard to better herself and her family. She went after her Master’s Degree late in life and succeeded. She worked hard, played hard and loved life. She liked being outdoors at the beach swimming, kayaking or biking, hiking and playing sports. This cancer she had was extremely aggressive, however, she did not give in and gave it her all. She went through surgery, radiation and eight to nine Chemo treatments which were extremely hard on her. She also tried chelation, as well as, anything and everything she read about or heard about to fight this illness. She put up a heck of a fight and all through this trying, challenging time, Deb’s main concern was for her family and what was best for them and being with them every minute she could. She was blessed with two granddaughter s while fighting this cancer and they brought her tremendous joy that helped lighten this challenging time. I know she wanted to be able to see them grow up but knew also it likely was not meant to be. Being the courageous, loving person she was, she just did the best she could with the time she had and never complained.
    > Deb is going to be truly missed by all and especially by her family and friends but we can console ourselves some, by knowing she is in a better place and now no longer in pain. She will always be with us in our memories, hearts and thoughts even though in body she is gone. Yes, gone but never forgotten. Her last words to me before she died was “ Lyn, I put up a good fight but I’m ready now to go, so I will see you in Heaven” I told her that I understood and definitely would see her there if they would let me in, which got a laugh from her. I remember a saying I once heard, “ Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery and Today is a gift, that is why they call it the present.” Deb always lived in the present and made each day a gift to all those around and with her.
    > Deb goodbye, I am really going to miss you. Lyndora Chase, your friend always

I’m Debbie’s aunt her dad is my brother.we are sorry we cannot attend,But I was there when she came into this world her Dad was out of town on a job,so I drove mother and baby to be to the hospital and there she was born and what beautiful little girl she was.Being as we lived in vancouer and didn’t get to see her very often . one time though when mother Helen was in hospital giving birth to Leslie jr. I flew up there to look after the kids while Les was working. Deb. was a sweet little girl until one day I saw her and two others playing in the railroad tracks out front of the house, I was frantic brought them while scolding them and gave each one a soft slap on their bottoms and boy she sure was mad at me. I went back home and it was a long while until I saw her but when I did she had forgiven me. Than she grew up and married and had two lovely boys.Didn,t see each other very often but always kept in touch. I did talk to her on the phone during her illness and she was such a strong women and I loved her very much. But I’m so glad she isn.t suffering anymore.Carol Lamoureux.

Our condolences to all who new Deb as we all did. When I lived in Kamloops and was on my own i would take trips to Kelowna and stay with Deb. We would go out for dinner and then off to the pub for a few beers and heated discussions ( a York trait ) over religion. The next day I would drag her off to the golf course where we good laughs. She was a good person and will be greatly missed.

  • Blair & Nancy McAuley says:

    Jim,

Nancy and I are unable to attend in person on Friday. I believe your wife possessed what is the best in people. Deb had a kind heart and a “rare” character strength. Graduate school, career, love of the outdoors, mother and grandmother and a great companion for you. I enjoyed our long distance calls when you were not available. I believe there were times when I extended the call length as my teasing, probing, and interrogation over the years consistently revealed just how happy she was to be in a committed relationship with you.

Deb has the deepest of feelings for you. It was in her voice on the phone and in her eyes when we were together. I have a great memory of her looking at you when you had first met. Clearly, the relationship has that happily ever after feel that was seen by all. Nancy and I will remember how she lived and how hard she fought to extend her time with all of us. I will forever remember the love and affection you enjoyed together. I have always believed when you live an honourable life, you get to re-live it more times as you age. Jim you honoured your relationship with Deb and it is our hope you can enjoy your memories of your time together. We both care deeply for you and ask that you understand God’s way.

    Love Blair and Nancy

    I am Deb’s Auntie Fay.
We are sorry we could not attend this Memorial.
Our condolences go out to all the family and to those who knew Deb.
    She will be greatly missed.
Deb was a remarkable woman who had the fortitude and courage of anyone I have ever known and was a kind and generous person in her own quiet way.
The thing I remember most was her laugh.
If you were in a room with her and she was laughing you would smile just to hear her laugh without even knowing why.
Now when I think of her or hear her name I will remember her laugh and I will smile knowing she is no longer in pain and she is in a good place.

  • Al and Donna Wyatt says:

Our greatest condolences to all of Deb’s family. Having met almost all of you over the years, each of you always made us feel like part of your family. From Les’s Annual Christmas parties, to BBQ’s at Bruce’s we always had fun too. We often joked that Al was the official carpenter of the York family having done work on 2 of Bruce’s home, Deb’s and Les’s. We knew Deb had been fighting her cancer battle hard the past few years and often spoke of her, hoping she would win the fight. We are deeply saddened by her death. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
