PERCIVAL, Roger

With heavy hearts and sadness, we announce the passing of Roger Mansell Percival January 5th 2015 in Kelowna.

Roger is survived by Linda his loving wife of 52 years, sons Scott (Veronica) of Kelowna and Daniel (Jennifer) of Calgary; his niece Beth Atkinson of Malakwa, BC and grandchildren Alexis, Catherine, Eric, Dean and Hunter. Predeceased by his daughter Susan and sister Vivienne McIntyre (Charles).

 

Roger was born May 15, 1939 in Saskatoon, SK and grew up in Vancouver BC. While attending UBC for his Commerce degree, he and his childhood friend Len, opened The Cavalier Shoppe, his first venture into the business world. Roger joined Sears in 1963 as a young trainee and spent the next forty years moving up in the Company, living and working in many locations in BC and Alberta. His final position as Store Manager of the Calgary Chinook Centre store allowed him to fulfill his management and leadership skills.

Roger was a long time Rotarian and proud to be Kelowna Capri Rotary Club Rotarian of the year in 2000.

Roger looked forward to going to work in the morning and coming home to his family at night. He lived a good life.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cottonwoods for caring about him and for him.

A Memorial service will be held January 17 at 2:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

    Linda, I had news of Roger’s death from my former classmate Sherry Baker who keeps track of us. I remember with both fondness and gratitude your kindness to my parents Norman & May who had the good fortune to have you as neighbours.

    Linda we were so sorry to hear of Rogers passing. We cherished the times we shared with you on Waterton Ave. in Richmond. I will always remember his smile and sense of humour. We will not be able to attend his memorial as we will be out of town. Our thoughts and Love will be with you,Scott , Dan and their families.

    Linda & family – so sorry to read of Rogers passing. With his struggles Roger always saw the glass on the full side. His conversations always stimulating and enjoyable.You watched our children grow up as summer neighbours for over 25 years with patience and tolerance. As my children enjoy your former home I look around at the work Roger did with determination and my amazement. This will always keep him in my memories. Our thoughts are with you.
