Passed away on April 30, 2015 at the age of 85 at home with a community care aid and his daughter. Survived by his daughter Debbie (Rainer) Schwarz of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren Marie Schwarz, Ben Schwarz and Kristina Albright, Ryan (Kristen) Schlechte, Amy Schlechte (Clay Fertuck), Alyssa Schlechte (Brandon Sams); great grandchildren Charlotte, Nicholas, Korbyn, Annelisse and Jaxon, Haylee Leiterman; sister-in-law Frances Petterson; nephew Daryl (Audrey) Petterson, niece Annelle Wilkins and son in law Gerald Schlechte. Predeceased by his parents, sister, two brothers, a few nephews, a niece, several in laws, good friends, his wife and a daughter. Harry Leonard Petterson was born on October 6, 1929 on a farm outside Kinistino, SK. After a few years of coaxing, cajoling, begging then a hospitalization Dad decided to leave Caskey Place and live in Kelowna with Rainer and me. You can take the man out of Saskatchewan but you never took Saskatchewan out of Dad. He looked forward to reading the Melfort Journal every week, kept an updated copy of Sask Tel directory and kept in touch with friends “back there”. Probably in phone conversations less than five minutes. He used to curl and golf and would watch them on TV. One of his favorite places in Kelowna was an outlook over the Harvest Golf Course on the way home from appointments. Occasionally we could hear him singing which he would do when he was content. His days were filled with reading, sleeping, watching TV. Jeopardy before supper was routine. He had a great sense of humor and was very patient. It seems patience and a sense of humor were his signature traits. I was very fortunate over the last year and four months to be with him. Rainer was in the process of building a ramp for his wheelchair. Dad looked out and kept appraised of the progress but never got to use it. I only got to do for him a snippet of all that he gave for me. I believe he has rejoined Mom and Adelle and others he has missed. I love you Dad and will miss you. No service by request.
