We Remember

REYNOLDS, Philomena

It is with profound sadness that the family of Philomena Reynolds shares the news of her death, February 9, 2015, at her home in Kelowna, wrapped in the love of her daughters. Phil was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. She came to Prince Rupert in 1957, where she met Jim and became a proud Canadian. Phil adored music, strong coffee, politics, long walks with her dog, dancing, pickling beets, yard work, the Canucks and travelling, but her greatest joy was her family. We never doubted her faith in us, and we were blessed to have a mom with such a bright spark. By her example, Mom taught us the value of a generous spirit, volunteerism and hard work. Phil spent many years in White Rock, raising our family and helping run RJ Reynolds Land Surveying. Phil is predeceased by her husband, Jim, brothers, Michael and Tommy, and sisters, Peggy and Kay. She is survived by her beloved youngest brother, Frank (Kay), in Ireland and her sister Nora (John) in New York. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Jane Schoepps, nieces Terri and Kellie Rice, Vivian Stock (Riley), and several nieces and nephews abroad. Mom will be ever missed by her daughters Susan Reynolds (Brian), Maeve Reynolds and Catherine Wallis, son-in-law Chris Wallis and her treasures, her cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Liam, Olivia and Daniel Wallis. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 14th at 2:30 pm at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canuck Place, in Phil’s name www.canuckplace.org. We wish to thank the kind nurses and care aides for providing comfort to our sweet Mom. Dear Maeve and family.
My deepest condolences to you all. I was so sad hearing about the passing of your dear me m.
It was such a joy to meet your mom on her visits here to Vancouver. She had such a lovely sense of humour and I enjoyed the lunches we all went on. It was a joy to hear her laugh at our sometimes quirky jokes. What a beautiful gentle soul. Phil will be so missed. Love Sue and Dickie xo

  • Sybil Harrison says:

    Dear Susan, Catherine and Maeve

My mom called the other night to let me know she saw your mom’s obituary. I am saddened by her passing and extend my deepest condolences. I was also filled with many, many happy memories of times I and my sisters spent with your family. Your mom and dad welcomed us into your home–they were always generous, tolerant and open. I recall hours on the trampoline (it must have been the first in WR!), driving with your wonderful mom in her Mustang, times at Cultus Lake, meals together, high school parties– I could go on and on. Phyl was a remarkable woman, she was a loving mom and a good friend to many. What a loss, but I’m so blessed to have known her. Love and prayers to you all.

The O’Keefe’s wish to extend our deepest condolences. We remember you mom so well; her energy, love, smile, and humour. We were lucky to have had her in our lives for the time we did, which although a long time ago, seems like yesterday. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

  • Gambacort family says:

So sorry for your loss of such a wonderfull woman,a bright light,a true pleasure to be around, always a smile and a kind word and a loving heart.

  • Michael O'Boyle says:

    Dear Maeve, Cathwerine and Susan,

I first remember meeting Phil when she and her family visted us in Bristol, UK
in the 1970s. She was the exotic Canadian part of my Dad’s large family
and I was inspired by tales of large northern lands.

Fast forward to the 90s and Brigitte and I were invited to stay in White Rock.
She was warm. welcoming and almost entirely diplomatic about our plan to drive
to Dawson City and back in a small hire car.

A few years ago, I stayed with Phil in Kelowna talking about her
upbringing in Ireland and her desire to see the world. The contrast
between 1950s Ireland and Canadian frontier life was thrilling.
Like many of her generation she was animated by politcs and ideas. While
we did not always agree, it was a joy to debate with such as sharp mind
and a dry sense of humour!

Phil lived life to the full and was much loved by her family and friends.
I found her inspirational and I know she will be dearly missed.
Our thoughts are with you all.

    Love

Michael, Brigitte, Joe and Jamie O’Boyle

  • Todd & Jennie Hatch says:

    My dearest Maeve & family,
Our deepest condolences go out to you all during this difficult time. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved your mom so much, (she was like a second mom to me growing up). When thinking back on my childhood memories it still makes me chuckle at all the fun times we shared during trips to Cultus Lake and Pt. Roberts. Coming home with you Maeve after school what seemed like every day to the warm Rice Krispie treats your mom always made and we would sit in the kitchen and eat them all. She was a wonderful mother and so devoted to you all. She was a great example to me also and I will miss her so much!!! Please feel my arms wrapped around you now….I love you all and I wish I could be there now!!!

  • maureen Harrison says:

  • Sherry Sellers (Watson-Ardiel) says:

Koko & Chris, Liam, Daniiel, Thomas & Olivia , Maeve and Susan
So many wonderful memories of your Mom have lived on in my heart over these years. I will never forget how your Mom & Dad gave me a place to stay before I married Randy. They were so gracious to me. Your Mom was a second Mom to me, always ready to give advice and share a warm meal ! I will never forget the mischievious glint in her eye and her dry witty sense of humor…especially when she would tease your dear Dad. I will also never forget her ability to listen to the BC Lions in one room and the Canucks on tv in the other with a political commentary going on down the hallway on another radio and keeping it all straight ! She displayed courage and dignity when faced with your Dads illness. She has passed on those qualities to her daughters and her endearing spirit will live on in each of you. Wishing I could be there but will keep you all in my prayers and thoughts In celebration of a life well lived I pray God wraps His everlasting loving arms around each of you as you grieve. Love Sherry and family

  • Maureen Mores says:

Susan, Maeve and Catherine. It was wonderful to meet you three daughters, as well as your dear mum, just before she passed. You allowed her to be wrapped in a blanket of love. (Somewhat the same way we are received by the world at birth.)
You wrote a beautiful obituary…she would have liked it I’m sure.
    -Maureen
