STANBURY, Janice Lillian

Passed away peacefully on May 6, 2015 at Kelowna General Hospital surrounded by her beloved partner, Detlef Brandt and several devoted friends. Janice is also survived by her brother Robert (Bob), sister-in-law Carol, Aunt Mary Goodman and several cousins residing in B.C. and Manitoba.  Janice was born April 14, 1955 in Winnipeg. After completing her secondary education, Janice pursued a career in nursing and graduated as a R.N. This was followed by a BSCN and lastly a Master’s in nursing. She has devoted herself to health care as a community nurse and later as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in wound and senior care in the Vancouver area. In the last 12 years of her nursing career, she taught in the School of Nursing at UBCO. Her passion for nursing was evident to the many first and third year nursing students who benefited from her wisdom, knowledge, care and humour.  Janice will be deeply missed by Detlef, family, friends and her furry companion, Buddy. She has left us with many special memories that we will forever treasure.  A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 4:00 pm, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either SPCA Kelowna Branch (3785 Casorso Rd., Kelowna, BC, V1W 4M7) or Evangel Church for HOPE Outreach (3261 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC, V1W 3N4).     I remember Janice in first year nursing school. She brought comic relief to a class full of nervous nursing students. She was my clinical instructor in 3rd year and guided me through it all. I am saddened to hear about her passing. She was a great instructor of the UBCO nursing school. Condolences to her family.

    Detlaf and family, I was so sorry to hear of Janice’s passing. I had her for an instructor in first year and then she opened her home up to me in second year during a practicum. Her generous, compassionate and humorous spirit was always an encouragement to me. She always had a kind word of encouragement and advice for me. Her passion for nursing and people was an inspiration.

    My sincere sympathy to Detlef and friends.
    I first met Janice when she was a Community Health Nurse in Vancouver. I have loved her spirit, her humour, her kindness and generosity, her beautiful smile for 35 years. She was a treasure that I will miss forever.

    I remember Janice fondly from Pierre Radisson Collegiate, in Windsor Park, Winnipeg. She was a remarkable woman, even in high school; bright, funny, likeable. My deepest condolences to all who loved her.

    We are surprised and saddened to hear of Janice’s passing.We both taught Janice at Pierre Radisson Collegiate.We remember Janice as a bright,energetic,likeable student whom we felt would succeed at whatever career she chose in the future.Happy to see that we were right.Our condolences to Janice’s Family and friends.She will be missed.
