TALBOT, Lyle

Lyle Emerson Talbot was born June 27, 1915 in Chatham, Ontario.

Survived by his loving family; five children: Marilyn Hamilton, Carol Talbot, Gerald (Amy), Cheryl Evans, Sandra Talbot; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Sadly predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Marietta, in 2010 and by all of his brothers and sisters.

In 1965, at fifty years of age, he entered the University of Windsor earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Theology in 1969 while working full time at the Ford Motor Company of Canada. He was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Theology after completing his thesis, “The Distinctive Character of Racism in Canada”. Throughout his life Lyle has been very active in both community and church work. In 1974 he received an award for outstanding service to the black community from the National Black Coalition of Canada.

His latest achievements have been the publication of two books. “Memoir of a Black Canadian Activist” (2013) details his lifelong experiences dealing with racial issues. In “Shaking the Foundations” (2014) he shares insights based on more than seventy-five years of Bible study. Lyle was a powerful role model for family, friends and colleagues.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Mission Creek Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Canada, 20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, AB T3J 5H5 or online www.samaritanspurse.ca/.     Lyle was a kind, Christian man. I talked many times with him on the telephone about his Talbot family history. He lived a long and wonderful life. He will be missed.

    Uncle Lyle was alert and talkative and full of wisdom to the end. A couple of years ago, I was shocked to find him calling me on SKYPE. We chatted often. This earth is a better place as a result of him spending his time here.

    Although it is always sad to say good-bye to a loved one, what a blessing it is to have had the privilege to know this remarkably talented and gifted man. Lyle touched so many lives during his lifetime, and has left this world for a well deserved reunion with those who have gone before him. I’m sure he will be welcomed with many open arms at Heaven’s gate. We will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.

    I will miss my papa so much but I am comforted by the fact that he knew Christ as his savior and is with his heavenly father. I am thankful for the 99 years that he was given so we could be blessed by his life and example. To my family preparing to celebrate his life in Kelowna, my heart is with you and I love all of you.

    I never really knew my great grandfather, In memory I can only remember Skyping him once. but I have always looked up to him and the work he did for the Nation of Canada, he will forever be a role model of mine and I am happy to be able to call him my great grandfather, I only remember meeting him the one time on Skype but I will miss him greatly nonetheless.

    I remember as a boy, visiting Uncle Lyle with my family when he and Aunt Marietta lived in Ottawa and then again in Florida. He is a kind and gracious man who now resides in his heavenly home reunited with so many who have gone before. Praying for God’s comfort for the family.

    I will miss my Dad very much. Although we lived far apart, I’m thankful for Skype on which we visited often. My Dad had some physical challenges, but now he is whole, free of pain, and rejoicing in Heaven.

    Dear Carol and Family, Please accept my sincere sympathy at the passing of your father. I remember meeting him on several occasions and I was always impressed with his strength of character and conviction. My father, Walter, often spoke about your father with great respect and friendship. They worked together for several years at Ford Motor Company in Windsor. I am so sorry for your loss.
