We Remember
STOCKING, Mary Elizabeth
July 9, 1935 — July 16, 2025
Our beautiful and beloved mother Mary Stocking (née Lackner) found peace and serenity on July 16, 2025, at the age of 90 in the Palliative Care Ward of NRGH.
She was predeceased by her husband and our father Arnold G. Stocking (d.1999) after 42 years of marriage; her parents Johann “John” and Victoria “Dora”; her sisters Anna Uhrich (d. Jess Tice), Christina (Chris) Smith (d. Charles), and Caroline.
Remembering her are her 5 children: Norma-Jean Ruscheinsky (Collin), Loretta Letourneau (d. Andrè), Barbara Tremblay (Jean-Guy), Ronald Stocking (Des), and Deanna Kevis (Jason). Also missing her is her brother Edward Lackner (d. Marie); her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary began her journey in Middle Lake, Saskatchewan, in 1935 and grew up in Humbolt, Saskatchewan, until she married in 1957. Mom and dad lived in a few different towns before making Calgary, Alberta their home and ran their business. Mom retired from being the backbone and organizer of the books for A.G. Stocking Testers Ltd. in 1982, the same time as dad, and they moved to the Okanagan to live a life golfing and travelling. They stayed in Westbank, British Columbia, until their last bird left the nest, and they moved to Osoyoos, British Columbia in 1994 where they found a community to enjoy doing what they loved.
Mom enjoyed baking all her life and sharing to those around her. She lovingly became known as “The Cookie Lady” on and off the golf course until she put away her golf clubs for good. She then moved to Nanaimo in 2020.
We want to give thanks to the Doctors and staff at NRGH and the Palliative Care Ward.

Sorry for your loss. My mother passed last November so i feel ya.
My condolences to the family, may she rest in peace.
Our heartfelt sympathies to you all. I have so many fond memories of Auntie Mary from her baking cinnamon buns, learning to swim in the pool to time spent fishing in Westbank. My sweetest memory is when I dropped my mom off in 2017 to stay with your mom for a few days, this is the last time they saw each other.

With great sadness, we’ve learned of Auntie Mary’s passing. Many a great visit was shared over the years with our Mom Anne, Mary’s sister. Forever in our hearts.
