We Remember

Doreen Daisy Perkins

April 20, 1923 — July 5, 2011

PERKINS, Doreen went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the age of 88.  Survived by her loving daughters Carol (Wayne) Webster of Barbados, Lynn (Orval) Kutny of Kelowna and Glenna (Stephen) Lupton of Salmon Arm, four grandchildren Tanya (Danny) Cuke, Peter (Nadine) Webster, Kris (Helen) Kutny and Brittany Beitel and six great grandchildren.  Sadly predeceased by all her siblings, her husband Glen and granddaughter Candice Amy Beitel. Mom and Dad met during WWII in England and married in 1943.  The war separated them for 4 years and they were reunited in Canada.  They communicated their love through their favourite songs – “Yours,” “White Cliffs of Dover” and “I’ll Be Seeing You.”  They came first to Saskatchewan to Dad’s family, then eventually to Richmond for many years.  Mom enjoyed being an active part of their church in Richmond.  A florist by trade, our yard was always full of flowers in bloom and also a huge vegetable garden.  Mom and Dad preserved what they needed and donated the rest to people in need.

 

Mom and Dad travelled extensively, enjoying many visits to her family in England and also to Barbados, Australia and Hawaii.  She was a devoted wife and mother and we always knew we were loved and cared for.  She loved to send flowers and little thank you notes to her friends and people who needed to be consoled.

 

Thank you to the staff at the Chatsworth Retirement Home and everyone that helped her in Emergency and 4B at KGH.  She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.  Private family service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association: 1589 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5Y7.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
