We Remember

CUMMINGS, Donald Keith

July 29, 1931 — May 7, 2024

It is with deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Cummings on May 7, 2024, in Kelowna, BC.

Don was 1 of 6 children born in Debert, Nova Scotia, to parents Clarence Earl Cummings and Mable Nellie Lambourne. He is survived by his sister, Nancy, but sadly, they were predeceased by their sisters, Shirley and Joan, and brothers, John and Teddy.

Don is also survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughters, Jacqueline, Patricia, and Jill (Shamus); his son, Gary (Gail); as well as 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-granddaughters.

As a youngster, Don worked for the Salvation Army during WWII at Camp Debert – delivering meals to the recruits. At the age of 20, Don joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The next year, on May 2, 1953, Don married the love of his life, Yvonne Louise Perron, in Claresholm, Alberta. They would go on to embrace 71 years together. As a member of the RCAF, Don, was stationed all over Canada and England. After 23 years of service, while stationed in Esquimalt, BC (on Vancouver Island) Don retired from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Don and Yvonne moved to Kelowna, BC, they built a home, and Don spent the next 20 years working for the Hudson’s Bay Company. Upon his second retirement, Don busied himself at home with many projects. One big project was building a travel trailer for Yvonne and him to travel across the country in, stopping to camp along the way. Don enjoyed spending time with family, camping, travelling, taking cruises, watching the History Channel, and of course everything to do with planes.

Don will be missed, but never forgotten.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Manor for their compassion and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
