We Remember
ESSLER, Richard
May 11, 1943 — November 23, 2024
After a life filled with love and laughter, Richard “Rick” Essler left us on November 23, 2024, at the age of 82.
Rick leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Diane (Dee) Essler; son Tony (Mona) Essler of Kelowna and daughter Tina Essler of 100 Mile House; grandchildren Sean Murphy of Abbotsford and Kristi (Ian) Field of West Kelowna; and great-grandchildren Lachlan Field and Lennox Field. He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his grandson, Bryce Essler (2010).
Rick was born on May 11, 1943, in Vancouver, BC, moved to Victoria at a very early age where he was raised and then married Dee. He built a beautiful life with his wife, and their children, whom he cherished deeply. His career started in Victoria and took him and his family to Calgary AB, Penticton BC, and finally to Kelowna BC.
A dedicated professional in the automotive trade, Rick was known for his incredible work ethic and his knack for problem-solving. He enjoyed the simple things in life, always working hard to ensure his family was cared for—a priority that guided everything he did. Rick’s great sense of humour brought joy to those around him. In his youth, Rick was a page at the Empress Hotel in Victoria. Later he became an integral part in the emergency services in Victoria by bringing in the first Jaws of Life to the city with the towing company he worked with. Rick and Dee were also business owners in Penticton.
Above all, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, proudly filling his home with photos and memories of them, lovingly referred to by family as a shrine to his grandkids and great grandkids. He relished watching them play and being part of their lives.
Rick’s warmth, dedication, and love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Celebration of Life in Rick’s honour will be held at a later date. Details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC SPCA.

So sorry to hear. Was a great guy and friend.
It was summed up in the post when it was said “ Rick’s warmth, dedication, and love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.” I knew him and I’m really thankful for that
Roger and I are saddened to learn of Rick’s passing. We used to enjoy conversations with Rick and Diane from time to time in City Park when our paths crossed at Bryce’s bench. Our heartfelt sympathy to the Essler family. May the love and support of family and friends be a comfort as you remember Rick..
