We Remember

GOERTZEN, Gordon Howard
November 17, 1934 — March 27, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gordon Howard Goertzen on March 27, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital. Gordon was 90 years young. Born on November 17, 1934, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he lived a full and meaningful life rooted in kindness, quiet strength, and deep love for his family and friends.
Gordon is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Gerry, who remained by his side through every chapter of life. He will be dearly missed by his cherished children, Rick (Jeanette) and Lorinda (Tony); his grandchildren, Shawn (Andrea), Shandel (Jarret), and Tijana; and his great-granddaughter, Alessandra. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Herb and Ruth, and his dear sister, Evelyn.
A man of great integrity and gentleness, Gordon built a successful career in finance, retiring with the respect of many. But it was outside the office where his spirit truly came alive. He had a deep love for the outdoors — whether it was camping under the stars, skiing down snowy hills, or casting a line into the ocean in search of salmon. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the water with close friends, fishing from his longtime friend’s boat, and soaking in the simple joys of life.
Gordon’s calm demeanour, quiet humour, and ever-patient nature made him a comforting presence to all who knew him. He never sought the spotlight — instead, he led with humility, always ready to lend a helping hand without hesitation. He was the kind of man who made the world feel a little softer, a little kinder, just by being in it. Hearing his hearty laugh and his phrase “all aboard” are two extra special endearing traits that his family will greatly miss.
Gordon had a deep love for Jesus, and in recent years, his favourite song was “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be”. He is now at peace, and when he opens his eyes again, he will see Jesus welcoming him into eternal life.
You were so loved and will be missed beyond measure… we love you, and we always will, you left a place no one can fill!
A private family service will be held in the summer.
Memorial donations in Gordon’s memory may be made to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) or to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

My eyes are stinging. Those are perfect words that remind me of the man I knew. My sincere condolences to Gerry, Rick, Lorinda and family.
Lots of memories. Learning to ride a bike, thanks Ricky, in lane behind Mermaid St. I remember being asked by Lorinda to take the first bite of her apple because her mouth wasn’t big enough to break the skin. I remember being sick in elementary school and, knowing my parents were in Vancouver, I went straight to Gerry’s house. She gave me soup and let me play with Tupperware. She was good at dragging Gordon around on a slalom waterski behind their Double Eagle, with the biggest outboard in Secret Cove (80hp).
Gerry let me borrow her leather ski boots to ski at Last Mountain. I was sharing a T-Bar with Lorinda, she was short, the attendant put it behind my knees and I flipped over backwards when the line tightened. Lots of memories of Gordon. Kind, quiet, calm. I remember 25 years ago looking at a photo (before digital) of my daughter in her graduation dress, in a small group of people. I hadn’t seen the photo before and I asked “why is Mr Goertzen in the photo ?” Someone told me to look closer, then I realized it was me. I wasn’t happy. Gordon was handsome, but I was only 41. Again, my sympathies. Love, Neil Clayton

Gordon was my great friend for 60 years and will be truly missed. There are many memories, but boating and fishing are the most memorable. He and Gerry loved the ocean, and it was always great to see them enjoying the coast.
Our love to Gerry and all the family at this sad time.
Gerry and Family, I had the great pleasure of meeting your beloved GG at the adult day program. My deepest condolences 💐
