We Remember
GRAPENTIN, Gordon Barry
—
Gordon Barry Grapentin went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 10, 2020 at the age of 60, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Barry is survived by his loving wife Holly; mother Lilly; brother David (Carolyn) Grapentin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers in-law: Dave, Leslie, Sid, Tammy and Vicki; eight very special nieces: Jani, Sharina, Michelle, Jennifer, Taylor, Jordyn, Jessy, Marcie and their families.
Barry was born and raised in Kelowna. He lived a short time in Vancouver, while he studied at BCIT, then returned to Kelowna the city he loved, to live his life and be close to his mother. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of Kelowna and all the interesting little facts he knew. Barry loved watching the real estate market, going on short or long road trips, watching movies, but he especially loved tinkering around the house and in his garage and spending time with his beloved dog Mitsy. He was a great listener and conversationalist with an awesome sense of humor. Barry had a strong faith in God and a dear love for his family. He was a kind, caring, unselfish and compassionate gentleman. Barry was extraordinarily conscious of being a devoted, attentive and loving husband, affirming that by doing something special for his wife every single day.
Barry was predeceased by his father Helmut, sister Margaret and he suffered the tragic loss of his brother Donald at a very young age. Barry will be sadly missed, but never forgotten by his family and many friends. He was very loved and our hearts are broken.

Our great and loving uncle. We miss you and are so thankful to have had the memories with you we did. <3xoxo
I babysat little Gordy – along with his siblings, Margaret, Donnie, and David. I loved these kids in a special way . Their Dad Helmuth was my cousin. Lilly my confidante and amazing friend in my teen years. I am so sorry to hear of Gordie’s passing. Looking forward to seeing him again in heaven. Love to you all.
Dave. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
Condolences to my friend Carolyn and all your family.
My deepest sympathies to the Grapentin Family. I worked with Barry in the mid 1980’s at Shoppers Drug Mart in Vernon. On our daily commute, from Kelowna to Vernon, we shared soo many laughs, figured out life and then laughed some more. Words cannot take away your sorrow today, but know:
His Journey’s Just Begun…
Don’t think of him as gone away…His journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets…This Earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting…From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort…Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing…That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness…Can really pass away.
And think of him as living…In the hearts of those he touched…
For nothing loved is ever lost…And he was loved so much.
We are so sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. Though we haven’t seen him in years, we have great memories of our times together in Youth group and he made a great groomsman at our wedding. Our condolences to the whole family.

Barry was the man! He always had time for everyone and I appreciated my run-ins with him at the lofts. A truly exceptional and genuine human. Sending love.

Barry was a charming man, a fun-loving and funny guy, a great roommate, a treasured member of our wedding party. He is missed by all who knew him. “He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith” (from 2 Timothy 4:7-8).
Our condolences to you for the loss of your loved Barry.

Barry was the finest person I have ever know. The times we spent together at SDM conferences were some of the best times ever! I will miss my friend..
sorry to hear of Barry’s death. I only knew him in a professional basis (The Lofts) however he was a really nice fellow to work with. I always enjoyed working with him & that is not a common trait these days. I am sure you miss him a lot – he was a keeper….
Very sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. My thoughts are with you .
Barry was amongst the most wonderful people on the planet. I met Barry in our professional roles and cherished our many meetings. He was kind, dedicated and brilliant with razor sharp, kind hearted humour. I cherish my fond and enduring memory of Barry.
