We Remember

HANCOCK, Arnold Maurice
June 8, 1944 — March 10, 2025
Arnold Hancock, born June 8, 1944, in Tisdale, SK, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC, surrounded by his loving family. Arnie, as he was known to family and friends, was 80 years old and remained active and engaged, still working, golfing and enjoying time with family and friends.
Arnie is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Maureen, who first caught his eye when he moved to Kelowna at 21 – she lived just a few houses away. The girl next door became the love of his life and his bride. Together, they built a life that spanned decades, including a ten-year adventure in Fort St. John from 1978 to 1988.
His legacy continues through his children: son Jeff, daughter-in-law Aimee and grandchild Lenox; son Brent and grandchild Emmett; and son Darcy, daughter-in-law Courtney and grandchild Hollis. Predeceased by his mother, Mildred, and sister, Irene, we rest well knowing they are together again.
Arnie’s life was one well-lived. He worked hard to become a respected electrician, building his own business from the ground up and running it until he passed. If not for his illness, he’d have kept going – he loved his work, almost as much as he loved chatting. Arnold was a true people person, he had a knack for making friends, had a great sense of humour and would talk to anyone. He was immensely proud of his sons, the professor and traveller, the builder and outdoorsman, and the barber and musician. He taught them much, but especially the value of being their own independent person. He was the kind of father and friend we all hope to be.
A lifelong sports fan, Arnie coached hockey, cheered for the Kelowna Rockets as a season ticket holder, and was always up for a round of golf. For over two decades, he played at Kelowna Springs golf course with his good buddies. He was drawn to the outdoors, whether on the course, camping at the cabin, or tending to his garden. Wherever he was, he liked to stay busy fixing and building things, even while on vacation.
Arnie’s was a life full of love, laughter, soft serve ice cream, and a lot of stubbornness and kindness. He will be profoundly missed.
Arnie was deeply grateful for the excellent care he received from his family doctor, Dr. Van der Merwe, and from all the doctors and nurses at the Hospital at Home program, an innovative model of care that allows some Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) patients to receive hospital-care in the comfort of their own homes. In lieu of flowers, please support the Palliative Health Home Program via the KGH Foundation.

To Maureen and family.
I just heard of Arnie’s passing.
My heartfelt condolences to you. He was a wonderful friend and cherished golfing buddy. Will miss his great sense of humour and hockey talks. Blessings to all.
Maureen and family. I’m sadden by the news of Arnie’s passing. He was influential in my life starting with being my hockey coach when I was 12, later hiring me in Fort St John and getting me started as an apprentice electrician. He also inspired me to start my own business here in Kelowna and although we were technically competitors in the industry, we still helped each other out on projects or with man power. I will always remember him with fondness. Keith Wemp
To Arnie’s family- I met Arnie at Kelowna Springs G C and we played golf together for many years. He was always a happy and friendly man, and he made the world a better place! Our condolences for your loss. Arnie will always be remembered.
Maureen What a beautiful service for your dear Arnie.
We are sending big hugs to you and your families. My dad Fred Scott enjoyed Arnie and his stories. Now all the Saskatchewan boys will be together and the good stories will be told. Best electrician ever.
