We Remember
HARE, Clara Amanda
June 25, 1932 — October 10, 2013
Clara passed away suddenly, to the grief of her family, on October 10, 2013, at the age of 81 years. She was born in Provost, Alberta, on June 25th, 1932, to Alfred and Jensine Angeltvedt (nee Tuft). A gold medalist in school and the Vice-President of the University of Alberta Student Union, she married Carl Hare in 1955. Their careers at university and in acting led them to live in several cities in England and Canada. In Victoria for twenty years, and in both in Edmonton and Kelowna for sixteen, she made many selfless contributions to those around her and to the community. She will be terribly missed by her daughter Moira, her children Emma and Nicholas and their father, Garnet; her son Donovan, his children Nathan, Dylan and Rachel and their mother, Ruth; and her son Kevin, his daughter Lucy and her mother Corinne. Although well known as an actor and teacher, she will be especially remembered for her herself; as many have said, a wonderful, warm, empathetic woman, vital, energetic, filled with such life, joy and love. Funeral services will be held in Kelowna at the Cathedral of Saint Michael and All Angels at noon on Saturday, October 19th. A memorial and interment will take place in Provost, Alberta on Monday, October 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Lutheran Church.
Many thanks for the efforts of those who helped her in the Emergency Ward and the Cardiac Cath Lab at the Kelowna General Hospital.

Dear Carl and family,
I am totally in shock of Clara’s passing, so sudden and unexpected. I just knew her through Celiac meetings, she was always so upbeat, always smiling, it was such a pleasure to know her. She will definitely be missed at our meetings, and by many who knew her. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family at this sad time. May you rest in peace Clara.

To Carl, who we have come to know well in recent years, along with Clara, and to all the family, we send our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Clara. It was with great shock and sadness that we learned this news. We were blessed to come to value you as a couple and continue to wish you, Carl, and indeed all yours, the solace that friends and family, including your church can bring at this sad time, as we share in your sadness. Mike and Jo
I remember Clara’s many kindnesses to me as a young student at the Phoenix Theater, both at the house off Foul Bay Road and later out at Cadboro Bay. She was so supportive and positive. I always remember her whenevever I make hot, spiced apple juice in the winter – hers was the first I ever tasted. She was a lovely, gracious lady, in the truest sense of the word.
We saw each other seldom but it was always an exceptionally warm welcome and a true interest in what each of us was doing now. My fondest remembrances are of Clara talking to aspiring high school actors, always encouraging, yet always honest. I will miss Clara very much.

Dear Carl,
I was terribly shocked to read of your tragic loss in the Edmonton JOurnal today. I shall always remember Clara as a wonderfully warm and warming person, generous to a fault and a riveting presence on stage. It was a huge privilege to have shared the stage with her in ‘Under Milk Wood’ and to have known her socially. Your partnership over so many years is the envy of many, and her loss will be very hard to accept. Our very, very deepest sympathy to you and the family. May you find consolation in many, many happy memories of an exceptionally rich life,
Vivien and Richard Bosley

I first met Clara about 2 weeks ago when she and Carl came to my Tai Chi class.
Clara was a delight – threw herself joyfully into the lesson and gave me a big hug when parting! She made a huge impression on me in just one shared morning.
My condolences to friends and family.

Dear Carl, Donovan, Moira, Kevin and family we are so sorry for your loss. Mike has such wonderful memories of Clara and the whole Hare family growing up on Cherrilee Cres in Victoria. Over the years we were blessed to have Clara and Carl visit on occasion and I always felt so uplifted in their presence. I remember one visit in particular where Clara encouraged me to write, I was so grateful for her enthusiasm and positive feedback.
We will miss her beautiful smile, loving heart and generous, spirited soul. With heavy hearts and much love, Lisa and Mike Olcen
The attached photo is Clara 15 years ago with Claire when she was one. Clara had bought her a book about horses, which she still has on her bookshelf. The other photo is with Elizabeth Olcen, Clara and Claire.
Carl and Family,
Our sincere sympathies about the sudden passing of Clara. We were so impressed by her wonderful and inspiring tribute to her dear childhood friend Tussy a few weeks back…
We wish you all the best
I remember Clara from the mid 1960s in Victoria. In fact I wore one of her Norwegian folk costumes in The Wild Duck. There were cast parties at the Hare home and she was always a gracious, smiling hostess. I am sure she will be missed by many.
To Carl and your family, our sincerest condolences on your loss, everyone’s loss really, as Clara was an amazing and inspiring individual. She will be sorely missed.
Neal and Ben
Please accept my heartfelt condolences to Carl and the family on the death of Clara, wife, mother, and grandmother. As one of the many people who were recipients of Clara’s great kindness and generosity, with deep sadness I share the loss, as I’m sure do the many skaters who Clara worked with in Canada Ice Dance Theatre over the years. Ron Vincent
My deepest condolences to all of you. Uncle Carl a big hug coming your way and to my cousins. I apologize for not being able to make it to provost but you are all in our thoughts. I have such fond memories of a fun filled childhood visiting with auntie Clara and the rest of you. Those were the days of magic. God bless xox.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the sudden loss of Clara. We were fortunate to have been counted among her friends and will miss her joy and kindness. We will cherish our memories of storytelling and laughter around the dinner table.

Dear Carl, Donovan and Ruth, Kevin and Corinne, Moira and Garnet, and the six grandchildren so treasured by Clara,
Will always miss Clara – living so far away, I did before she even died – and will always be grateful to have had her in my life all these years as my brilliant and wonderful (and 100% Norwegian) cousin.
Will be thinking of you all tomorrow in Kelowna, and then again on Monday in Provost, where I will be able to picture you will all the rest of our dear Angeltvedt family.
Lots of love to you all,
Carol
Dearest Carl and all the family,
My deepest of sympathies to the whole family during this sudden loss Clara – a ‘great divine spirit’.
What I remember so much about Clara is that incredible smile when she would come close up to me and look me in the eye smile, give me instructions and then laugh from the bottom of her heart when I or someone else did something funny or outrageous. She loved outrageous. She was so so so engaged, giving and energized as a teacher and performer. It was one of the major delights of my life to work with Clara during the Canada Ice Dance Theatre early days. Her spirit lives on and on alongside the memories. She radiated love, passion and serving. Many thanks Clara for giving my performance life and energy. Love to all the family and be well – she would want us to all laugh alot and be silly for sure. Clara you Rock!!!
Love Kevin
Sorry to hear what happened.
I remember Clara for her intelligence, her acting abilities and her compassion for life.. but I think mostly of bonding with Clara when she visited Provost, when her Father was ill. We had many good laughs and shared many cups of coffee. I remember the two of you driving all the way to Athabasca to share Oscar’s birthday. Carl keep those memories in your heart. We are grieving with you!
Our condolences, Carl, to you and your family. Clara will always be remembered for her enthusiasm, her vibrancy, and her warmth. She made everyone feel so damn good with her joyous spirit. What a treasure, lost.
Betty McAfee and Douglas Oakley
My heartfelt condolences to Carl, Donovan, Ruth, and all the family. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember Clara at our local community association meetings as a warm and wonderful woman, and almost always smiling.
I am very saddened by the fact that this happened far too soon as I understand Clara was still very much full of life and joy. I will always remember her as someone who helped give me confidence at a time when I had none. As a skater in the CIDT, I learned many lessons about life in her drama classes, most of which I still remember and take guidance from to this day. Thank you for bringing light into my life Clara. You will always live on in our hearts!
“A Thousand Suns”
How I have often thought of you and the richness you brought to my life and the “Rose” you always gave. I am blessed to have known you and to have been guided by you. I will always remember your teachings and the joy of working with you.
With this Rose I will always Love you.

Dear Carl, Moira and all the family:
Just now, I saw the notice of Clara’s passing –- please accept my apologies for being so late.
I remember, so well, her acting classes and the contribution she made to the CIDT; her enthusiasm, energy, dedication, passion, optimism had a tremendous influence on the other members of the CIDT. Those were the most memorable times and she will be sorely missed.
