We Remember
KUPSER, Lloyd Dale
December 31, 1958 — May 26, 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Lloyd Dale Kupser announces his passing on May 26, 2025 at the age of 66 in Penticton, BC. Born on New Year’s Eve, 1958 in Unity, Saskatchewan, Lloyd grew up in Kelowna, BC and lived between the Okanagan and Alberta.
A gifted baseball player from a young age, Lloyd was one of the best pitchers in Canada in his day. He was known for pitching perfect games, thanks to his signature “drop ball” technique. His formidable talent eventually landed him a spot on the Toronto Blue Jays minor league team, where he was considered for a call-up to the majors. His years playing ball were among his happiest. He cherished the friendships and memories made during those many games and seasons.
In the late 1970s, Lloyd met Elaine Sherstobitoff (Kupser), who would soon become his wife. The handsome young couple moved from Kelowna to Calgary in 1980 to begin their new life in “the big city.” They enjoyed a fun-loving and active lifestyle, always surrounded by dear friends and travelling as often as they could. Until his final days, Lloyd spoke frequently of their trip to the Algarve in Portugal, which he described as his favourite place on earth. In March 1992, Lloyd and Elaine welcomed their daughter Lindsay into the world. Though life later took them on different paths, their daughter remained the deepest source of pride and love for them both.
Lloyd was an avid sports fan, including a deep love for golf. When not playing himself, he spent much of his life maintaining some of Western Canada’s most beautiful golf courses, including the Penticton Golf and Country Club, where he worked for many years. Meticulous in his work, Lloyd took great pride in keeping the grounds he cared for pristine. He appreciated spending his days outside among the trees, flowers, and peaceful nature on the golf course, especially in the quiet, early hours of the morning when he began his workday.
Lloyd was passionate about music—rock and roll, baby!—and passed that passion on to his daughter, Lindsay. Together, they listened to The Eagles, Rod Stewart, The Boomtown Rats, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and many more. It is no coincidence that she grew up to become a professional musician, which brought her father great joy.
Lloyd was a good-hearted man with a generous spirit who loved his friends and family fiercely. Following a traumatic accident in 2024, his health sharply declined, and his body finally let go the following spring. Life bestows its burdens, and Lloyd bore more than his share. May he now lay them down and be free from suffering.
He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Kupser of Paris, France; his sister Elaine Kupser of Kelowna, BC; and his brothers Richard Kupser of Kelowna, BC, Dennis Kupser of Kelowna, BC, and Harvey Kupser of Oliver, BC.
And when you finally fly away,
I’ll be hoping that I served you well.
For all the wisdom of a lifetime,
no one can ever tell.
But whatever road you choose,
I’m right behind you, win or lose,
forever young.
– Rod Stewart

Truly sorry to hear of your loss, may your collective memories together bind you through this difficult time.
I had the honor and pleasure to have worked with Lloyd the past 20 plus years . He was not only a coworker but a friend . Both my boys got to work with him as well and looked up to him . We had a lot of fun . Golf , concerts, skins game to see his golf idol Freddie Couples play golf and unwinding with a cold beer after a hard day of work. We will miss you, so many good times and memories. Sending my heart felt condolences to his family.
My deepest sympathies to Lloyd’s family. I lived down the alley from the Kupers and grew up with Lloyd. We were lucky enough to re-meet in Calgary in our 40’s and spent time together with Dan McClelland. He was a character – and oh -so handsome. Lloyd will be missed.
I had the pleasure of working with Lloyd for many memorable years at the penticton golf and country club. Although I hadn’t seen Lloyd for a few years I still think of him often and it always brings a smile to my face. We had a very tight knit crew/family and Lloyd was a big part of it., Lindsay, even though we never met, I want you to know that whenever Lloyd talked about you his heart swelled and his face lit up with pride. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so glad that I had the pleasure of being Lloyd’s co-worker and friend.

Hello Larry, thank you so much for these kind words. My dad spoke about you to me often, and the whole golf club crew. You all meant a great deal to him. -Lindsay
Dear Elaine; So sorry to hear about Lloyd. He was our ring bearer at our wedding. That gives me comfort that we shared that connection. May he rest in peace. Take care Love Audrey
I’m so sorry for your loss. I just heard from Larry Olsen about Lloyd’s passing. My husband OJ worked with Lloyd for many years until his own passing in 2019. Lloyd was a very good friend to him. They enjoyed working together and loved to talk baseball. Lloyd always encouraged our son when he played.
Lloyd was so kind to me and my family and will be dearly missed.
Hello Maureen, thank you so much for reaching out. OJ was a very important friend to my father. He was absolutely devastated by his passing, and he used to tell me often about how great it was that your son was a baseball player. I appreciate your kind words. Take care. -Lindsay
I am so sorry to hear this news. I worked with Lloyd the past five years at the PG&CC. He was a good man, with a good heart. My son worked with him as well for a few years, and Lloyd would ask about him almost every time. Although we didn’t know each other really well, he would talk so proudly of you Lindsay. He would share your accomplishments with a smile on his face. I will miss seeing him out on the course and in the shop this summer. My very best to all his family!
Hello Brian, thank you so much for the kind words. It means a lot. -Lindsay
