We Remember

MEYER, Kenneth William

1941 – 2021

Born on June 7, 1941, Kenneth Meyer passed away on March 10, 2021, at Kelowna General Hospital. Ken will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Verna, and his mother, Margrethe Meyer, who is still with us. Sadly, Ken was predeceased by his father Wilhelm (d. 1993), and a brother and sister who passed away in infancy.

Brought up in a dairy and farming community, Ken was an entrepreneur, and he opened Hickory Farms of Canada, the 6th store in Canada; he was a Dairy Farmer; and he travelled with White Farm Equipment and Oliver.  His last 20 years of work, before taking an early retirement, was at Sears in Regina, SK. Once retired, he and Verna moved to Kelowna in 2005.

He loved a challenge, writing articles about hunting and fishing, and enjoyed many hobbies such as fly tying, photography, and painting. His love for dogs was constant whether it was his own or a friend’s. Ken, the quiet artistic type who enjoyed the outdoors also liked to paint, garden, read, do puzzles and go to garage sales in his free time. As his health declined, he watched the world through TV. He loved history and world politics made him laugh.

He may be gone, yet he is always in our hearts.

In keeping with Ken’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Friends and family are encouraged to honour Ken’s memory over a bottle of beer or good cup of coffee and remember the good times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
