We Remember

MICHAYLOW, Mike

May 13, 1944 — June 10, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mike Michaylow, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Mike passed away on June 10, 2025, surrounded by his adoring family.

Mike was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of many. Those who knew him were truly lucky. He loved his family deeply—especially his wife, Lucia “Lucille” and their two daughters, Lisa and Lianna.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucia; daughter Lisa and son-in-law Peter, and grandsons Ethan and Liam; daughter Lianna and son-in-law Dennis and grand-puppy Lola.

Mike was born in 1944 in Pibroch, Alberta to parents Helen and John, and grew up alongside his four brothers (Wally, George, John and Ted) and his three sisters (Jean, Lillian and Rose). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Mike owned and ran his successful roofing business for many years, specializing in hand-split, 24-inch cedar shakes which adorned many of Kelowna’s homes.  Later, he worked as a mechanic with his brother at George’s Auto. Mike and George were well-known as the Michaylow brothers who were a familiar presence at Thunder Mountain Raceway in the 1/8th mile drag races, where Mike won many first-place trophies.

Mike was endlessly creative and handy—he could fix anything, often with just a cedar shake!  He had a natural gift for solving problems and inventing practical tools to help others. He had a love of dancing, especially doing the twist with his daughter Lisa.

He was a great reader who loved discovering tips and ideas, always sharing them with his family. He stayed up to date on current events, sports and was passionate about discussing politics with his older daughter, Lisa.  He and his younger daughter, Lianna, shared a bond built on compassion and kindness toward others, along with a shared sense of quirky humour and lighthearted fun.

He enjoyed word puzzles, and found peace in his garden, where he loved feeding the birds, squirrels, and quails.

Mike had strong hands and a soft heart. He was always there when someone needed him and was a father figure to many. Genuine, thoughtful, and deeply caring, his presence made others feel safe and loved.

There are no words to describe the love he had for his wife and family and the magnitude of his loss.

His legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be forever loved and missed; and we know that his beloved canine companion Charlie is waiting for him to throw that ball.

Until the very end, Mike lived true to himself. In the words of Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way.”

May you rest in peace, our hero.

A small family gathering will be held in Mike’s honour at a later date.

Our heartfelt condolences to my grieving sister, Lucia, nieces Lisa, Lianna and their families. We are bereft at the loss of our dear brother-in-law Mike, and very special ‘Uncle Mike’ to our three children. So how do we say good-bye to such an endearing person who was an integral part of our lives? We hold him close to our hearts by remembering the rich tapestry of experiences and memories we shared with him.
We remember his keen interest in current news events, researching topics, and living a healthy lifestyle. He generously shared his knowledge with family and friends as he truly cared about helping people achieve a happy, healthy way of life. Mike was always ready and willing to assist others in any way he could. He was a practical person who lived a balanced life of physical fitness, hard work and enjoyed various sports. Mike loved to participate in fun challenges like friendly crib competitions with his niece, Kristina and winning the Limbo Champ contests at family and friends’ events.
Lisa, Lianna, grandsons, nieces and nephews: you all have treasured memories of fun times playing with your wonderful dad, grandpa, and uncle, especially when all of you were growing up.
Our beloved Mike, may your soul rest in eternal peace.
Lucia, Lisa and Lianna, may you find comfort in remembrance of your wonderful husband and dad during this painful time.

    Embracing you with our love,
    Ivanka (Janie) and Alan Vaudry
