February 19, 1970 — August 28, 2022
Cory Montemurro passed away unexpectedly, at 52, on August 28, 2022. He leaves behind a broken-hearted family: his beloved spouse of 12 years, Brandi Jones, and children Jada Jones and Taylor Schmidt; as well as his mother Brenda Montemurro; and his brothers and sisters Jason (Patti Szmolyan), Marina (Ken McLennan), Bryan, and Vanessa (Michael Doehle). He was predeceased by his father, Vincenzo Montemurro, on September 5, 2018.
Cory was born and raised in Edmonton, AB and came to the Okanagan in 1997.
Cory was a best friend, confidante, and mentor to many. He was a shoulder you could cry on. His phone was always on. He was there for everyone. Cory was such a smart, hardworking, lovable guy with a big heart. He had many friends and cherished those relationships. A great accomplishment which brought him so much fulfillment was helping Brandi raise her beautiful children.
Cory loved technology and was very mechanically inclined. He went headlong into his work and persisted until everything was done just right. He was always ready for an intellectual conversation and was thirsty for knowledge. He lived so much more than his 52 years would suggest. Cory faced many intense challenges and kept his head up. As an entrepreneur he was a General Contractor/Consultant in the cannabis industry. Some of his other achievements were in construction, for example the Gas Depot project in Lake Country, the land development in The Mission, and the subdivision on the west side where he got to work with his dad. His last project involved building a Health Canada approved cannabis facility.
Cory walked the road less travelled and was a fearless guy. He enjoyed reasearching different topics, going out for dinners, boating, going to the gym, cuddling with his spouse and dog, and watching goofy TV shows like Big Bang Theory. He was a big teddy bear and loved The Sound of Music. Health and fitness were important to him, and he took his supplements daily. He made the best protein shakes. He was very precise and took great care of his possessions. He didn’t have a filter and would make you laugh at every opportunity. Cory held his mother in high regard and was available for her needs, and boy did he give the best hugs! School was never his thing, but he sure was street smart and was a good provider. He wanted the best for the people around him and encouraged them to better themselves. Cory’s sudden departure reminds us that every day is a treasure.
Cory was generous, dependable, humorous, loyal, lovable, and he will be dearly missed.
