We Remember

MURRANT, Bob
June 24, 1955 — April 23, 2025
It is with a heavy heart and a deep sadness that we announce that Bob Murrant passed away this week, closing out 69 years of a life that was full, fierce, and unforgettable. Bob passed away on April 23, 2025, in Kelowna, BC. He is survived by his wife, Helen; children Jaime (Duane), Mike (Kaylee), and Niki (Sean); granddaughters Vanesa and Jessica; brother Alan; many nieces and nephews; and his much-loved grand-dogs. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Doreen.
Bob and Helen began their journey 48 years ago. It was a partnership built on beach days, road trips, long walks, and unwavering love. Together, they relocated to the Okanagan in 1983, setting up a home base for what would be a long, laughter-filled, family life.
A natural athlete and team player, Bob laced up in hockey, swung for the fences in baseball, lined up drives in golf, and kicked it on the soccer pitch. Off the ice and field, he channelled his love of the game into coaching with Rutland Minor Fastpitch and Kelowna Minor Hockey, even leading a team on a once-in-a-lifetime tour to Australia. Later, he spent eight seasons as a fixture at Rockets games, selling 50/50 tickets and trading laughs for loonies.
Bob’s heart belonged to the Canucks, the BC Lions, and the Blue Jays — though not always in that order.
Known for his legendary “dad jokes” (whether you asked for them or not), Bob wore his funny bone proudly. His granddaughters fueled his comedic flair by giggling and laughing at his jokes, having sock wars in the living room and showing off their best dance moves together. As a family, the Murrants camped under countless stars, visited friends and family on Vancouver Island, and spent as much time together as they could. Bob worked hard without complaint and made friends everywhere he went — usually with a story, a grin, and a handshake.
Stubborn in all the right ways and loving in all the important ones, Bob Murrant played every shift of his life like it mattered — and it did. To those lucky enough to be on his team, he’ll forever be a hall-of-famer.
The rink may be quiet now, but the echoes of Bob’s laugh — and maybe one last groaner of a joke — will be ringing in our ears for seasons to come.
