We Remember

PFEIFFER, Deanna Joyce

February 5, 1941 — April 11, 2025

Some lives are simply too vibrant to be contained within a few lines, and Deanna Pfeiffer—who took her final curtsy at the age of 84 at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC, on April 11, 2025—was exactly that kind of soul. Born in Winnipeg on February 5, 1941, she left this world just as she lived in it: with grace, grit, a twinkle in her eye, and a timeless affection for crisp white blouses that somehow always made her glow.

Deanna believed life should be lived in full colour and rich texture—preferably in quilt form. Her quilts were treasures, stitched with joy and love, as were the many other things she created with her hands. She delighted in watercolour painting, crafting dolls with tender fingers and a heartfelt attention to detail, and travelling across the country in her motorhome—never with regrets, but often with a few too many craft supplies picked up from her latest favourite sale. She adored shopping, after all.

Her culinary tastes leaned toward the bold and beautiful—Mexican food being her top pick: vibrant, full of flavour, and just spicy enough to echo her playful approach to decorating. Her home was a patchwork of global inspiration, each corner a story, each item chosen with heart.

Deanna was the cherished partner of Richard Fyall, who lovingly embraced even her most spirited attempts to sneak yet another throw pillow into their home-on-wheels. Her children—Robert Paradis (Colleen Hayes), Sue Stevens, and Angela Pineau—carry on her legacy of warmth, creativity, and a cheerful embrace of life’s delightful chaos. Her grandchildren—Brandon, Kyle, and Riley Pineau; Brodie Paradis; and Saro Stevens—each hold cherished memories of her laughter and love, and her great-grandchild, Averi Paradis, may one day inherit her flair for finding the perfect white blouse for any occasion.

She was a beloved sister to Chrissy (Don) and Linda (Jake), with whom she shared countless memories, adventures, and stories still told with laughter. She was also a loving mom to her furbabies, Sonny and Norton, who continue to keep vigil in their favourite sunbeams, surrounded by the gentle love she wrapped around them every day.

In her later years, Deanna faced illness with quiet courage, humour, and grace. She was deeply thankful for the compassionate care she received from the staff at the Cancer Clinic and her in-home caregivers, who were touched by her warmth, wit, and ever-lovely demeanour.

There will be no formal service, as Deanna preferred moments of personal remembrance over grand gestures. She would want you to create something with your hands, tell someone you love them, or buy that wonderfully impractical pair of shoes you don’t need—but absolutely adore.
