We Remember

ROSHINSKY, Alfred “Alf”

November 16, 1937 — March 27, 2023

Alf Roshinsky, son of the late Joe and Cecelia Roshinsky, who was born on November 16, 1937 in Carrot River, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023.

Joe and Cecelia left the farm life and relocated their large family to Rutland, BC in 1955. The Roshinsky family fast became a recognizable name in the community, known for helping out those in need and for their musical talent.

In 1961, Alf met the love of his life, Theresa Bosch. The two married on March 3, 1962, and the couple soon welcomed four children. After a short stint in Whitehorse from 1966 to 1971, the family moved back to Kelowna, BC, where Alf and Theresa opened Cero Dry Cleaners in South Pandosy, which they owned and operated until 1981. Alf then had a career working for School District 23 until his retirement in 2002. In 1996, he accepted the position of manager of The Rutland Centennial Hall, a role that he left after over two decades. He was a popular face at the hall’s weekly flea market.

He was involved in coaching his kids in minor baseball and minor softball. He also served as referee-in-chief for Kelowna Minor Hockey. He was part of the original team that started the Kelowna Snowfest Triple A Midget Hockey Tournament.

Alf loved to meet up and chat with his friends and family, and he had a large group of friends that he enjoyed having coffee with at McDonalds. He had a huge heart and was always there with a helping hand. He was no stranger to a hard day’s work and needed to be busy.

Alf was predeceased by his wife, Theresa, in 2011, and he missed her dearly. He was also predeceased by his mom and dad; sisters Nataline, Anita, and Vivian; brothers Ed, Clarence, and Ron; and his grandson, Joel.  He is survived by his sons Steve (Dallas), Kelly (Stacey); daughters Karen (Gary) and Janet; grandchildren Melissa, Courtney (Cole), Nicole, Brooke, Connor, Devin, and Olivia; as well as his brothers Wilbur (Dianne) and Mervin (Sharon); and his sister Wilma.

Dad, you’re finally walking with Mom again, catching up with your sisters and brothers and playing cards with Grandma and Grandpa while Grandpa whistles a tune. And, last but not least, you and Joel are probably telling each other your dumb jokes and making each other laugh. Dad, we know you’re up there looking for something to work on, but now it’s your time for a well-deserved rest.

  • Brian Winter says:

Our family has known Alf since the mid 60`s. He worked for awhile as the drycleaner for my dad`s business Courtesy Cleaners in Rutland. He was always cheerful and had such a good smile. In later years when Donna and I would come back to visit my folks we would see him at McDonalds coffee row and share the laughter. I enjoyed his quick wit and he was always a very good friend to my dad. My sympathies to the family. Rest in Peace, Alf!
