We Remember
SCHELLENBERG, Jacob “Jake”
November 3, 1934 — July 19, 2025
Jacob “Jake” Schellenberg passed away peacefully into the presence of Jesus on July 19, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC, with his wife by his side.
Jake was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, to Minnie and Abe Schellenberg. When Jake was young, the Schellenberg family moved to Gladstone, Manitoba to pursue farming. The family relocated to Kelowna in 1956. It was in Kelowna that Jake met the love of his life, Adena, at youth group — which was the start of a 68-year-long love story. Jake and Adena have three children: Vicki (Scott) Bekker, Randall Schellenberg, and Jason (Crystal) Schellenberg; six grandchildren: Cailey, Vanessa and Mitchell (Merissa) Bekker, Niki Schellenberg, Emily, and Amy Schellenberg; and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Riley Bekker. Jake also leaves behind his brother Len (Vera) Schellenberg and sister Linda (Henry) Rempel.
Jake was a Canada Post employee for 24 years holding various positions and in many different communities from Whitehorse, YT to Summerland, BC over his 24-year career. When he retired from Canada Post, he drove school buses in Penticton, BC for an additional 10 years.
Jake fully retired in 1991, although “retirement” just meant he and Adena volunteered with organizations such as Roving Volunteers in Christ (RVIC’s), Haggai Institute, Living Waters in Africa, and various other organizations and charities that were near and dear to their heart. They would spend months working on construction projects, painting, cleaning, doing yardwork or whatever was needed. In later years, Jake and Adena spent time travelling and had many memorable trips with friends visiting different countries. As a family, we frequently heard how blessed they felt to have so many travelling experiences, and they truly cherished the relationships they developed with their friends and fellow volunteers.
Jake was always quick to help in any way he could, he had a warm smile and a sparkle in his eye — that often meant he was up to mischief or a tease.
Jake was predeceased by his parents, Minnie and Abe Schellenberg; his sisters Betty Colley and Agnes La Fortune; and his daughter-in-law Leanne Schellenberg.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua and his staff, and the staff and friends at Summerwood Regency who have shown kindness, compassion, and caring in the last months of Jake’s life.

Adena and family
We are so sorry to learn of Jake’s passing. He was such a wonderful man and neighbour. Thinking of you at this very difficult time.
I will miss seeing the merriment in his eyes. What a sense of fun he had. What a loving and positive man. The world has lost a good one. Hugs, Miss Winnipeg
I’m sure they have already expanded heaven to make room for the gentle giant
We’ll all get together sooner than we think. Praise God.
Our condolences to you Adena and family. Jake and I were close friends when he lived in Gladstone. We also attended Elim Bible school together in 1951 – 52 . May the Lord be your comfort in this time of grief.
My thoughts and prayers have been with you during this difficult time. May God continue to uphold you .
I’m so thankful for the get togethers we had through the years.
May God bless you. Love Gladys
