We Remember
STEPHEN, Sharon
December 24, 1947 — July 5, 2022
Sharon Stephen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 5, 2022, in Kelowna, BC.
She is survived by Fred, her loving husband of 54 years, children Heather (David) Cumming, Diana (Polly) Stephen, and her grandchildren Taylor, Paige, and Ella Cumming. Sharon was predeceased by her parents William and Catherine, and brother Kenneth Stables.
Sharon was born and raised in Victoria, BC. She grew up in the James Bay area and told stories of climbing trees on the parliament building grounds as a child. Her upbringing in a diverse community instilled in her a lifelong belief in equality and fair treatment for all. She met Fred while working at The Bank of Montreal, and they married in 1968. They moved to the Okanagan in 1969 where they made their home and raised their family in the Valley.
She will be remembered as being kind, humorous and intelligent. Her inspirational attitude and ability to adapt helped her to thrive for 50 years in spite of her MS diagnosis as a young mother. Sharon was a swimmer, winning a medal in the BC games. She loved horses and horseback riding.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mountainview Village and Brandt’s Creek Mews for their exceptional care and devotion.

My sincere sympathy to Fred and family so sorry to hear about Sharon passing she was a beautiful woman always so cheerful she will be missed
My deepest sympathies to Fred, Heather and Diana. Sharon was just the best cousin. I remember Mum and I spending time with her and Uncle Bill in Victoria, and when I’ve visited in Kelowna. She never let her MS or her rheumatoid arthritis defeat her spirit, always upbeat and happy on the phone. If there’s a heaven, I know she’s there.
My deepest sympathy on Sharon’s passing. She was a brave and engaging lady who will be greatly missed.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Heather, Di and Family. Your mom lived with such dignity and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy.
Sending you all my love and strength.
Love, Shell
