We Remember
WILSON, Don
July 19, 1943 — February 11, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing at age 82 of our beloved brother, Don.
He leaves behind his sister Louise; brothers Ken (Pam) and Rob (Norma); June Thomson from Winnipeg, his long-time friend and travelling companion. He also leaves several nieces and nephews: Katie (David), Ayla, and Jonah; Dave (Jen), Hannah, and Cameron; Kymn (Michael), Derek, and Tenille; Jason and Matthew. Don was predeceased by his mother and father, Dora and Dr. Gordon Wilson, and brother-in-law, Doug Perry.
Don lived a full and meaningful life, guided by curiosity, kindness, and a quiet generosity that touched everyone around him. An avid birding enthusiast, he found great joy in nature and could often be found patiently observing and identifying birds. He enthusiastically shared his love, passion, and concern for the natural environment. Don always looked for opportunities to gather like-minded people around him to collectively speak up for the protection of nature.
Don taught school for many years before retiring and was always a passionate traveller. Don explored the globe visiting many destinations across all seven continents. He embraced each journey with enthusiasm and wonder, always returning home with stories, memories, and a deeper appreciation for the world and its people.
Family and friends were the joy of his life, particularly sharing a meal around the family table. Don was a keen armchair sports enthusiast closely following football, basketball, and hockey. He rarely missed an opportunity to be in the stands watching his nieces and nephews play.
Don was known for his extraordinary memory and remarkable attention to detail. He lovingly kept family and friends connected through his thoughtful phone calls, emails, and Christmas letters, ensuring that relationships remained strong across generations and distances. We are so grateful for the countless hours he spent putting together our family tree.
Don leaves behind a loving family, his long-time friend, June, dear friends and countless memories that will be treasured forever. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and connection will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
Our thanks go to his medical team at Kelowna General Hospital. We also appreciate the kindness and compassion of Dr. Thiessen.
Don will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Don requested no service or flowers.
In Don’s memory, donations can be made to the Knowledge Network, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, the Central Okanagan Naturalist Club or the Nature Trust of B.C.
