We Remember
CORNILS, Hellmuth
October 19, 1939 — September 11, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Hellmuth (Hal) Cornils on September 11, 2018 in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 78.
Hellmuth is survived by his wife Audrey Cornils of Calgary; daughter Corrina (Barry) Sullivan of Calgary; grandchildren Ryan and Katelyn of Calgary; brother Uwe (Freda) Cornils of Langley; sister Cornelia (Michael) Miller of Germany; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by brothers Peter Cornils and Jens Cornils.
Hellmuth was born in Hamburg, Germany on October 19, 1939 and immigrated to Canada in 1963. He worked for many years in Calgary and surrounding areas as a stone mason, and then as a goldsmith at Cornils Jewellers in High River, AB. Upon moving to Vernon, he worked as a tile setter, but he had been retired in Kelowna for many years.
Hellmuth loved his yard, growing plants, his cat Jasmin, get-togethers with friends and family and his poker and dart nights. He will be missed greatly by all his family and his close friends, many who were like family.
A special thank you to everyone at the Kelowna General Hospital for their care and extraordinary efforts at the time of his passing. At his request, Hellmuth’s remains will be cremated and a remembrance/celebration of life planned for a future date.

I have just heard the very sad news. I had the pleasure of knowing Hal for the last few years and enjoyed playing poker with him. My most sincere condolences to Hal’s family and many friends.
Hal, My first memory of you is from playing poker almost 13 years ago, and I also remember how intelligent and easy to get along with you were the whole time I knew you, where the time goes. You were a great man then, and in my memory you will always remain a great man. Rest In Peace my friend….
