We Remember

DECKSHEIMER, Jean (née Hipkins)

Jean went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2019 at the age of 86. She is survived by her loving husband Harold Decksheimer; her daughter Cheryl (Kevin) Gilbert and son Bob (Karin) Decksheimer; grandchildren Kaleena (Nick) van den Born, Lizz (Garret) Marsh, David (Shawna) Gilbert, Tyler (Melissa) Decksheimer, Morgan Decsheimer; and great grandchildren Kloe, Jaxon, Emily, Henry, Jacob, Axle, Edyth, Ozze, Helyn & Linnea.

Jean was born in Tisdale, SK and was the eldest of 10 siblings. She attended school in Tisdale then move to Moose Jaw, SK to work, this is where she met the love of her life, Harold. They were married September 25, 1954.  Every Anniversary was celebrated with love. Harold’s work took them to Calgary in 1960, where their two children were born, then to Vancouver in 1965, and to Kelowna in 1966. Both deciding Kelowna was the best place to stay and raise their family.  In 1972 Harold and Jean purchased a shoe store which she managed for four years and started a new love of shoes! She continued to work in sales for several years. Jean had a love and talent for all crafts, ceramics, sewing, rag dolls, bee’s wax candles, and most recently scrubbies and her beautiful scarves. Jean was a very active member in her church family at First Lutheran. Harold and Jean enjoyed many camping trips with family and church families.  Many holidays to Mexico, Hawaii, Palm Springs, Fairmont Hot Springs, Lake Chelan, plus many trips to Saskatchewan to visit family were a part of her life.  Jean was loving and caring, her kindness, accompanied by her smile, will be forever cherished by us all. She was loved as a sister, wife, mom, “grama” and then “great grama Jean”, but always a friend.  There was always a treat in her purse and a welcoming hug for us all. She was a friend and soulmate to many. She will live forever in our hearts.
