We Remember

FINCH, Alan G.

May 17, 1924 — May 22, 2017

Enveloped by the love of his family, on May 22, 2017, Alan went to join his beloved Dorothy who had passed November 2, 2011 after 34 years of marriage.  They can now be together again.  Alan was born May 17, 1924 in Moose Jaw, SK, the seventh of nine children and is survived by his youngest sister Elsie James of High River, AB.

Alan is also survived by Dorothy’s daughters: Beverly Turick, Marjorie (Jim) Foseid and son Rand (Cia) Barker and by Alan’s children: Frances MacLeod and Alan Scott Finch; grandchildren: Todd (Renata) Turick, Rodney (Julia) Turick, Kimberley and Stephen Barker; great grandchildren: Logan Turick and Alba Turick.  Uncle Al is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom had a very special place in his heart.

Al enlisted in the Navy on May 17, 1942 and was called into active service February 3, 1943.  He served on the HMCS Owen Sound as an Anti-Aircraft Gunner where he served 18 months in the North Atlantic and was awaiting reassignment to the South Pacific when the war ended.

Alan eventually relocated to Vancouver where he settled into a career with Beaver Lumber for 35 years, until his retirement October 1, 1985.  Al and Dorothy moved to West Kelowna in 1988 to pursue their love of golf, gardening and enjoying life, family and friends.  Al was truly a kind and gentle soul.

Al spent his final 2 years at Brookhaven Extended Care facility where he enjoyed being spoilt by the excellent, caring staff.  We wish to thank everyone there for their compassion and care shown to Al throughout his stay.  Al, Dad, Uncle Al is missed beyond words, but we know he is now in a much better place.  As per Al’s wishes there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the MS Society.

Condolences

  • Kevin james says:

We have lost a cherished family member and of all my uncles – uncle Al was the one who reminded me most of my beloved grandfather Finch. He always made me feel welcome and I enjoyed my occasions of getting to golf with Uncle Al when I would travel into the interior back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I regret our paths did not cross in recent years but I thought of him often and looked forward to getting the reports from Mom. I know I never told him in person but I truly loved him and even though he got grandma Finch’s height gene I always looked up to him. My sincere condolences to all of our families who will miss him.
