GREGOIRE, Vera Bernice (nee Wallin)
March 10, 1927 — May 28, 2015
Passed away on May 28, 2015 at the age of 88 at Kelowna General Hospital.
Vera was born in Preeceville, Sk. on Mar.10, 1927, the 9th of 11 children born to Peter and Matilda Wallin. Vera’s early life was spent growing up on the family farm, south of Lintlaw, Sk. later moving into Lintlaw where she attended high school and sang in the choir.
After WW2, Vera married Larry Gregoire in 1946 in Lintlaw, Sk. They had two children, Dennis (1947) and Louise (1948). They raised their children in Steelman, Sk. where Larry was a grain buyer for Searle Grain Co. and later they owned and operated Larry’s Lunch and Grocery. Vera was the chef for the small restaurant and was known for miles around for her good home cooked meals and her delicious pies!
In 1969, they moved to Penticton, BC in and later to Cawston, then back to Penticton where they retired in 1985.
Vera is survived by son, Dennis and daughter, Louise, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Vera is predeceased by her husband Larry, (2014), and all but three siblings, Hazel Gregoire, Robert Wallin and Elva Torgunrud.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, # 4–1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.
