Scheer Helen


Passed away January 17, 2017 at the age of 86. Survived by her loving husband Mike; daughter Leslie (Doug) Whitney of Crawford Bay, BC, Stephanie Scheer of Victoria, BC; son Greg (Susan) Scheer of Nanaimo, BC; grandchildren: Stan and Elizabeth Whitney, Amy Whitney, Lindsay Scheer; great grandchildren: Jordan and Harmony Whitney; brothers: John of Calgary, Alfie of Victoria, Herbert of Surrey and Gary of Cranbrook. Predeceased by her sisters Caroline and Mary. Helen was born into the Kobley family on August 14, 1930 in Schuler, Alberta. She married Mike in October of 1950. They moved to Kelowna in 1956 and has been their home ever since. Helen loved being a homemaker, mother, wife and friend. Caring for her family was her passion. Baking, cooking fabulous meals, entertaining family and friends, she loved this all. She also loved to travel with her kids and later she later she and Mike travelled the world. Helen loved to play cards, bowl and play the slots. Mike and Helen squared danced for some 50 years with the “wagon-wheelers.” She supported her children in their many activities, always being their with a helping hand and a beautiful smile. She loved her extended family, often travelling to visit or to travel with various relatives. Helen loved her dogs Fritz, Brandy, Coco, Keyes, Mitzu, they were all spoiled like her children. A special thank you to Hydee, her caregiver, we are so grateful for your devotion, caring and loving attention. You were her angel! Helen will remain in the memories and hearts of her husband, children and friends forever.  Prayers will be held on Monday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 24th at 10:00 am at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 750 Rutland Road North, Kelowna, BC. Interment to take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of BC, www.parkinson.bc.ca.   • I remember some of our summer vacations spent with Aunty Helen, Uncle Mike, Greg, and Leslie (Stephanie was to follow later). Aunty Helen was a master of creating a warm, welcoming, safe environment. She was always gracious, always dignified! She leaves me with nothing but fond memories….. May she rest in peace.

  • Dear Uncle Mike & family,
    I am so sorry to hear that Auntie Helen passed away. My memories of her are so special, from the many times we spent at your lovely home in Kelowna during summertime visits, to my last visit with her when you attended my wedding in 2002 in Calgary. Take care Uncle Mike, cousins Leslie, Stephanie, and Greg, and keep your memories of her alive, I send prayers and love to you, she is in the arms of God now and joined with her Sisters and her Mom, our Gramma Rose, looking down on us with her lovely smiling face.
