VIOLA, Maria Rosina

October 1, 1924 — March 10, 2017

Maria Rosina Viola (Rosa) passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family on March 10, 2017 at Village at Mill Creek in Kelowna, BC at the age of 92. She was born on October 1, 1924 in San Martino, Cosenza, Italy.

 

Rosa will be remembered most for her kindness, strength, patience and resiliency. She is survived by her husband, Vittorio (Victor), daughters Pamela Wilma Viola, Elina Viola, Susanna (Sue) Viola-Reczka and her son Antonio (Tony) Viola, her granddaughters Angela Viola, Alicia Gerber, Julia Viola, Nicole Schlemm, Cecilia Schlemm, Stephanie Reczka and Anne Reczka and great grandchildren Coen Viola-Schooten, Adalyn Gerber, Simon Viola-Schooten, Cole Gerber, and Max Reynen.

 

Rosa came to a new country, and together with Victor made a life for her family and raised four wonderful children. She lived to spend time with her family. Rosa showed her love with food and loved to gather everyone around the dinner table to enjoy the feast she had so lovingly prepared. Canning, pickling and making homemade jams with the fruits and vegetables from the garden was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed sitting in the warmth of the sun. while shelling peas, pitting cherries or trimming beans.

 

Her granddaughters are grateful to her for teaching them how to love, work hard, and care for their own families. They will miss hearing Nonna share the stories and memories of her childhood in Italy.

 

Funeral and Prayer Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Ave Kelowna, BC. Prayer service will be on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m., Funeral on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11 a.m.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Village at Mill Creek for their kind and considerate care of Rosa during her years of living there.
