We Remember

WATSON, Doreen Elizabeth

Doreen Elizabeth Watson, 90, of Kelowna, BC passed away peacefully June 15, 2015. Survived by her loving husband of 62 years Archie Watson and four children: Hugh Rhyasen (Carol Van Iderstine), Judy Watson (Robert Cramb), Wendy Watson (Walter Wright), and Cameron Watson (Stephanie Davidson); along with four grandchildren: Andrew, Meghan, Jessica, and Maxwell.

Born March 8, 1925 in Calgary, Doreen grew up on a farm in Springbank with her twin sister (predeceased) Eileen Herringbone (Wallace) and brother (predeceased) Ron Wallace (Althea Wallace).  She is the last direct surviving member of the Wallace family.

Doreen and Archie met through the United Church and were married in Calgary in 1952. Prior to settling in Kelowna in 1989, Doreen and family lived in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Thunder Bay. A loving homemaker, Doreen cherished her family and many close friends. She welcomed all to her home and had a quiet and genuine manner that endeared her to all who knew her. Throughout her life she enjoyed both active and quiet pursuits, volunteering often and had a strong faith.

Special thanks to Dr. Jan McIntosh as well as the staff at Sutherland Hills Rest Home and Village at Mill Creek for their diligent care of Doreen. The family also wishes to thank Teri LaBoucan for her devotion and kindness to Doreen over the last three years.

My sympathy and condolences to the Watson family. Mrs Watson will always be remembered. She was always welcoming and friendly. I will always remember her welcoming the boys in Thunder Bay to celebrate Cam’s birthday on January 1 (or other days when we dropped in) and even in Kelowna when again I just dropped in to say hello.

Our sympathy to the Watson family on the loss of a wonderful woman. I remember many dinners and sleepovers at the Watsons house in Winnipeg. And when I would come for visits to Saskatoon Mrs. Watson always made me feel at home.
This is a poem that we read at my Dads service that I found to be very comforting. I am not sure who the author is. It is called Let me Go.
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free,
Miss me a little, but not for long,
And not with your end head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me but let me go,
For this is a journey that we all must take,
    And each must go alone,
It’s all part of the master plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
    Go to friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me but let me go.

Love to you all. Diane and Bob

  • Doug Reid says:

My deepest condolences to all the Watson’s for your loss on Doreen’s passing. I also have great memories of our neighbourhood friendships in Winnipeg where the kids were always welcome to cut across the lane and come on in to visit. Mrs Watson always had a smile for us. Archie and Doreen shared many a laugh and good time with my parents as well. Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

  • Janice N says:

My sincerest condolences to Archie and the entire Watson family on the passing of Doreen. I work in the laundry department at Sutherland Hills and loved visiting with Doreen when she was living at the home. Doreen had a kind heart and I would always make a point to stop by to say hello. We talked often about her children as she loved them dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

  • Barbara and Terry Turner says:

Dearest Archie, we are so sorry to hear that Doreen had past away. We had been in Alberta on a family emergency and left the day she past and only got home last night. We pray that she went peacefully and that your memories and children will help you get through this difficult time. Will be in contact soon. Most sincerely, barbara and Terry Turner
