ARMIT, Olive Margery (nee Dipple)
October 20, 1919 — January 12, 2015
Margery passed away peacefully on January 12, 2015 of natural causes.
Born on the family farm at Stranraer, Saskatchewan to loving parents, Olive and Ernest Dipple, in 1919. She loved the prairies and always felt most at home in Saskatchewan and especially the Qu’Appelle Valley. Margery was raised on a ranch farm and rode her pony to school where she would later teach after completing her education degree from University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. Called to WWII, Margery was a Service Officer with the RCAF, recruiting pilots to serve overseas. During the war, Margery met Squadron Leader Conn Armit and they were married in Edmonton in 1944.
Margery and Conn settled in Regina where Dr. Conn Armit built a successful medical practice and Margery had the challenge of raising five sons. Her countless work for charities and community was well respected. Following retirement in 1976, Conn and Margery moved to the Kelowna, BC area.
Margery was a kind and loving person who always saw the best in everyone and every situation. She was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren.
Margery leaves four sons, John, Vernon; Jim, Vancouver; Bill (Debby), West Kelowna; Tucker, BC; daughters-in-law Carol Armit, Regina; Amelita Armit, Ottawa and two grandchildren; Eric, Regina and Irene (Danick), Toronto. Sadly predeceased by her husband, Conn and son Robert; brother John Dipple and sister Helen Dipple.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff at Village at Smith Creek for their extraordinary care and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Interment to be at Indian Head Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice. Condolences may also be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com

Dear Bill and Debbie. We are sorry to hear of Marg’s passing. Our condolences to you and the family. I have so many fond memories of dinner with you Bill, and Conn and Margery after you finished work at the Caribe, when we both lived in Kelowna. She was such a lady and oh so positive. I know you will cherish many fond memories. She will be missed, but always in our thoughts. Take care.

We were saddened to hear that Margery passed away and have so many great memories of her at the cottage on Katepwa and in the family home on McCallum avenue. She not only raised you five boys but in a way helped raise a lot of us as well.

It was a growing honour to be named for my aunt. When I was little, it was enough to be amazed that she lived in a huge 3-storey house and had 5 effervescent sons. By the time I was 11, I was taller than she was–a feather in my cap–but an achievement that was fostered more by my parents than my own growing-up goals. It mattered more to me that she, as an educator and a thoroughly delightful correspondent (Mum always shared her letters), encouraged me about the importance of self-expression through writing. Her recognition of my abilities was a powerful influence. I also remember a consistent warmth and love that was full of humanity and humour. What a great laugh! What sparkling eyes! It is perhaps a little hard not to gush! The world was enriched by her presence and I miss her.

Joe & I would like to send our sincere sympathy to her family. She was a wonderful neighbor to us when we first moved to Somerset Rd. If her service in Indian head is not restricted to family, we would appreciate knowing the date, as we now live only 15 min north of Indian Head. We would appreciate paying our last respects to such a wonderful lady. Our family, Leann & Darin were also both saddened to hear of her passing. Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Bill and family,
So many memories – your mother was among the first to welcome my mother to Regina in 1951 and the families became life long friends. Close neighbors on McCallum, a few cottages apart at the lake, and nine sons (between the two families) create a lot of common memories.
Simple memories are often the fondest – when I think of Marj, she is standing at the cottage door – arms outstretched, huge smile and great sense of humor – I never felt so welcomed. Always so positive, her presence made everyone feel a little better.
Bill, your mum was truly a special person – she loved people and the feeling was always mutual.
Our thoughts will be with you on Friday and we look forward to seeing you at the lake this summer to share some memories.

Like so many have said, my memories of Marj are at the lake-she and Conn are sitting outside in the backyard greeting all who ventured through”the path”.
Smiling and interested in all of their friend’s children as real people, not just as kids; I felt very accepted by her. I was lucky to see her many times when she came to Vancouver to visit Jim, Bill& Deb. Jim would make one of his delicious roasts and Marj would be there with her glass of wine and the life of the party. She lived a good life and her memory will forever linger. Sincere condolences to the Armit family. We never had a chance to meet you mother, however we are enjoying her former condo here in Monticello where she was much loved and respected. Kristina and Allan Chase
