We Remember

BUCKLE, George

On Sunday, December 7, 2014, our wonderful husband, father, and grandfather passed away suddenly at the age of 85 years.

George was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 17, 1929.  He attended the University of Edinburgh and received his degree in Education.  He then emigrated to Alberta in 1958 where he met his first wife, Liz, while both were teaching at the Iron River School.  They moved to Edson in 1965, and he spent the remainder of his career there as a teacher and school principal.  They raised 3 children in Edson, and retired to Edmonton in 1995 where Liz passed away in 2002.  He then had the great good fortune to move to Kelowna with his second wife, Brenda, in 2004 and spent 10 very happy years volunteering at the Museum and HAM radio club, and enjoying the Okanagan.  He is survived by his loving wife Brenda; two daughters: Patricia Buckle (Bronko), Sheila Buckle (Ken); son Trevor Buckle (Chris); his step-children: Kim Nutley (Dale), Mark Nutley (Marie-France), Shawn Nutley (Jenn), Shiela Kim (Hyun-Chul); three grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler and Olivia; four step-grandchildren: Teryn, Chanelle, Sidney and Jules as well as extended family.

There will be no service as per George’s request.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kelowna Museum, 1304 Ellis Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 1Z8, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, #4 – 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9 or the charity of your choice.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

George continued to teach long after he retired. I am so thankful that I had many opportunities to share time and conversation with George, and to learn from him.
Thank You so much my friend.

  • Rose And Frank Kurek says:

To The Buckle Family Our condolences, thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Mr Buckle taught both my husband and myself when he was teaching in Iron River. Those were the good old days. He was a great teacher and fun to be with. Mrs. Buckle was also our teacher and was a daughter of family friends. May they both rest in peace. Memories Eternal.

  • Edie West says:

George was my principal and mentor for many years at Evergreen Elementary Schoolin Edson, Alberta. As a novice teacher, George had a number of occasions to “teach” me the proper way of doing things. I deeply appreciated his guidance and sense of humour as he helped me become a worthy teacher. He will be sorely missed.

  • Frank Magyar says:

My condolences to the Buckle family. We were neighbors with George and his family in Edson. As we were only two doors apart, we often saw each other. George always had a big friendly smile, and time for a little chat.

  • Ron Rosmer says:

I knew George well via our radio club. For anyone interested, I have multiple videos of George at our ham radio field days. Email me at rmrosmer@gmail.com
