  • Tracy Meier says:

    Dear Janice and Steven,
It is with great sadness that I read about Gordon’s passing. I had the true privilege of working with Gordon for the first seven years of my career at Ellison Elementary. Those were some of the happiest days of my career. Gordon was a kind, fair, generous, encouraging and dedicated principal and I have many cherished memories of those years. Gordon was incredibly patient and he always had the best interests of the students in mind. Despite his quiet demeanor Gordon had a great sense of humour and a strong belief that the workplace should be a safe, happy environment where everyone thrived. He will be greatly missed and always fondly remembered. You must be so proud to have been able to call this wonderful, talented and compassionate man your Dad. I am truly sorry for your loss. Tracy Meier

  • Jennifer & Gary Reece says:

    Greffen family,
I was saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. I worked with him at Glenrosa Elem. during his time there. He quietly, kindly -and very determinedly! -encouraged us down new paths that he knew would benefit our students. We jumped onboard with great enthusiasm feeling that we were accomplishing wonderful things….and we were. A ‘leader’ of the very best kind…walking along side of us with the gentle hand in the back, encouraging us to try new ways, giving us confidence to grow…..Gord made all of us more than we thought we could be.

  • Elaine Sladen says:

May happy, loving memories help you through this difficult time.

  • ginny and Jack Henry says:

dear Steve and Janice, So sad about losing your dad, but he lives on in each of you, and especially his precious grand daughter. Gabby has so many natural talents, that on any occasion she had to be with Mona or Gordon she was being influenced by them. Their sincerity, kindness and talents will always be a part of her heritage, and she will carry that with her forever!! I myself was in awe of them and the grand marriage they had. I will remember them fondly our love Ginny and Jack Henry

  • Norm Mawhinney says:

My wife and I send our sincere condolences to the Greffen family at this time of loss. We both knew Gordon as the caring Principal of Ellison Elementary School which our two children attended. As a family we really appreciated the warm school environment fostered by his leadership. As a fellow SD 23 school administrator, I also valued his positive, collegial approach.
Gordon is remembered fondly and we share your sadness.

  • A student from long ago says:

  • Robbie Irvine says:

Your dad was principal at Glenrosa Elementary for the 7 years our two sons Andrew and Iain attended there. He led with a steady hand and made a positive impact on all our lives. He was kind enough to keep in touch with us every Christmas after we moved away. We will miss him.

  • Julia Mawhinney says:

I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was at Ellison Elementary when I was 10-12 years old and he has always been one of my favorite people. He made all of us feel special and valued when we were at an age that is usually so awkward. Over the years I have often remembered him for his kindness and his ability to inspire (he knew I was interested in calligraphy, so he bought me a kit). My heart goes out to your family. He was an incredible man.

  • Jan Schumacher says:

    To Gordon’s Family
It was my pleasure to know both Gordon and Mona when they volunteered at the BC Cancer Agency. They were highly regarded and greatly appreciated. Gordon made the going lighter for many patients when he played the piano for them. What a kind and gentle man he was! I am so sorry for your loss.
