We Remember

HAY, Frankie Lee

Passed away peacefully on February 17, 2015 in West Kelowna, BC.

Survived by her son Scott (Lorna) Soderling, grandchildren Mike and Steve Soderling, nieces Kay Allen and Clara Carter, step-son Noel Hay and step-daughter Karen Turrall. Predeceased by her first husband John (Jack) Soderling and her second husband Bruce Hay.Born in Graham, Texas, Frankie was the youngest of nine children. She married Jack Soderling in 1948 and continued to work for the local telephone company. By 1950, she retired to raise her family.

The family moved to the Toronto area in 1962 and her new life in Canada began. In the mid 1960’s the family settled in Mississauga. She became very active in the local church. For a number of years, she volunteered many hours with the Senior Men’s group, helping elderly men with daily activities that had become increasingly difficult for them to do on their own. She was well known for throwing the best block parties in the neighbourhood.

When Jack retired in the early 1980’s, they moved to Sarasota, Florida, where she lived until Jack’s death in 1988.

In 1990, she met Bruce Hay and moved back to Mississauga where they were married. Tragically, Bruce died 3 years later. During those few years, they were very happy and managed to take a few trips (across Canada, England, Greece).

She remained in Mississauga, living in a condo apartment, staying active in the church and condo activities.

In 2010, she moved to Kelowna, BC, to be close to Scott and his family. For 3 years She lived at the Missionwood Retirement Resort where she met many new friends and was very happy. As her health deteriorated, she moved to Lakeview Lodge, a full care facility, where she received wonderful care until she passed. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Lakeview Lodge for their efforts to make her last days so comfortable.
