KENNEDY, Allan
January 7, 1941 — August 26, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan (Al) Kennedy age 73 years on Tuesday August 26, 2014. He is survived by his daughter Leanne (Arthur) Bunning; three sons Russell Kennedy (predeceased by wife Michelle), Bradley (Kelly) Kennedy and Craig (Cynthia) Kennedy; grandchildren, Kyle (Nicole), Brett, Brandon, Brady, Joseph, Johnathon, Alexander, Jason and Jaxon; and great grandchildren Trent and Alice. Al won the Canadian Junior Championship in 1959. Shortly after he became a golf professional. He was a C.P.G.A. member for over 50 years. In 1972 Al was the first Canadian golfer to break 60 to win the B.C.P.G.A. Championship. He passed on his passion for golf by teaching all levels of players right up to his last day. As per Al’s wishes cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at his favourite spot at a later date. To the family of Al, we will miss seeing Al driving by our home and hanging out at the driving range with us. He was a permanent fixture here for so long.

Al was a true “old school” original of the CPGA. A great player in his day, also respected as a teacher to all levels, but most important, a good guy!
Al you will be missed by many!
Al was my golf grandpa and taught me many great things far beyond a golf swing – he taught me to have patience and to love the simplicities that life affords us such as the feeling of a great drive or the beautiful walk never spoiled by the one that wasn’t as good. He will truly be missed and I will forever think of him when I drive by the Pinnacle.
We were very sorry to hear if Al’s passing. When we think of the Pinnacle Course we will always be reminded of Al and his caring ways.
Al will be greatly missed here at Gallagher’s but there is another 59 waiting for him up there.

Al, a friendship of 57 years and not a bad word spoken between us, more a testament to your attributes and demeanour than mine.

So sorry to hear of Al’s passing. Vince and Al started out in the golf teaching and pro business about the same time and were great friends all these years. Didn’t see much of Al the last few but always asked about him and hoped he was doing ok. Vince even sent me to get lessons at Quilchena with Al, saying I never listened to him. He was a great teacher and good friend.
It was an honour to have known Al. There are a number of things I could say about Al but one incident stands out. Many years ago I arrived at the Quilchena golf club on a cool and windy day with only a golf shirt – no jacket. Al upon seeing my attire immediately offered me his windbreaker. I will never forget this little act of kindness.

Coach was a respected friend and occasional golf instructor who took strokes off my handicap, and whose tips continue to stick. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest in peace Coach-and thanks again!
Oh Al…..your off to golf with the Angels. So, so sad but I’m sure your love the sights, some new holes to play and angels to teach. I spent many long hrs, some busy, some very slow in that clubhouse at The Pinnacle working with you for 3 yrs. Shared alot with each other and I know your be really missed by many. Rest in Peace.

My brothers, and I along with our families would like to thank everyone for their kind words. It means a lot to us knowing how much dad touched peoples lives. We will miss him dearly and will carry on his legacy especially on the golf course.
Al was a great mentor who gave me my start in the golf business. Although my career has gone in a different direction, his lessons on treating people fairly and with respect remain with me today. A consummate professional, he will be missed.
So sad. I new Al from back in the Quilchena days in the early 80’s and was surprised to see him here lo these 11 years ago. He sure helped my game and he taught Sue how to enjoy the game. We’ll miss seeing him around.

Sorry to hear about Al’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with him a few years back, and then seeing him on photos of the Titleist Cup representing Team BC at the PGA of BC office. RIP Al.
Al was a straight shooter in life and golf and was always ready to give a boost to younger pros in their journey in the golf business. You will be missed
I was only a distant acquaintance of Als in the golf industry. Never the less, Al was one of the “bigger” names in the BCPGA when I was an assistant professional, and yet he always treated my naive ways with respect as I grew within the association and when we occasionally met in tournaments. Thank you Al.
Al, going to miss you old buddy, great memories, the B.C.Open at Chilliwack, watching you win the Peace Portal Pro-Am, great nine iron to a foot on the first playoff hole with those talented soft hands and many more. Enjoy your cigars and golf with no bogies and see you along the way.

Al was a true “pro’s pro” , he had that old school perspective and knew the game of golf inside out. His golf buddies, students and fellow professionals will miss him.
If Al got know you it became a lifelong friendship.Always pleasant and straight forward he will be missed by many fellow PGA mambers and friends.

Sad to see a good friend go — he deserved more out of life but those who really knew him behind the defence were blessed to experience a kind, fun loving, spirited, thoughtful and talented individual. His memory will be with us forever.

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of a great friend and colleague. Al and I worked together for many years in the early 80’s at Gallagher’s Canyon and though I was his boss we both knew who was the veteran and who was the rookie. But in all that time he gave and received respect because he really was a Pro’s Pro. And when I needed advice I always turned to Al because his wise counsel was always right on, although it didn’t always feel like what I wanted to hear!… So friend, thanks for always being so straight forward with your wisdom, and guidance, we’ll talk again!
Sorry to hear about Als passing. A great loss for Joan and the children, the Langara boys could always beat the Fraser View boys because of Als great play.
