Passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the age of 80 years. He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Yvonne Schulz. A special acknowledgement and deep gratitude to the many staff at Kelowna General for the exceptional care he was given. A private interment will be held at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, 2268 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1T2. Ben was a listener,a mentor, a good friend who lived to give advise. He would show me different ways to look at life and situations. He always had a good story to tell, as I could sit with him for hours and constantly be entertained. Ben liked to know everything about you, he liked to know what made you tick. I received alot of guidance from a caring compassionate soul. Ben taught me alot in our years of knowing each other.
Dear Yvonne, my heart goes out to you, as you were his Best Friend,Wife and confident. I am so very fortunate to have been able to work with the two of you and many personal times together which I will always cherish. Yvonne you were his heart and soul and I know there is no amount of words that can help ease the pain you are going through. I will say a prayer for you and Ben and keep you in my God Jar. Ben you are deeply missed my friend :'(

The passing of my Godfather is a great loss.I will always cherish my memories of my time with Ben, He was not only a father figure to me, but also my mentor and dear friend.Yvonne i cannot tell you how very sorry i am that Ben is no longer with us.

My dearest Yvonne. I am at a loss for words, and was so taken by surprise to hear of your loss. I am still in shock he’s up in heaven with the angels… And probably telling them what to do… Haha, but in all honestly I am so privileged to have met such an amazing man such as Ben! He was a man of strength, encouragement and most if all passion for what he believed in and that was never stopping and always continuing to succeed! I will always treasure our memories of the visits to your home, the pool, homemade crepes and you sneaking an extra something. You always gave me crap and yet you always made sense and made me laugh all the time with your Whitty sense of humour. You are so sadly missed and loved. Gemmagh will continue to know your legacy. Yvonne, I am so sorry for your loss. Ben was a special friend to me and my family. We will always be grateful for the times we spent together with the both of you. We shared many laughs and tears together. We started out as friends , but we became a family.Love Shirlee.

The stories that Ben and I shared were priceless. Horse races, hot dogs (lack of) getting lost and coming to see my baton concerts. I always have felt that if something ever happened I always had another set of parents in waiting. We had a lot of good times together. We are so very sorry for your loss
Yvonne, I was very sad to hear your loss. Ben and yourself were a significant and amazing part of my growth last year. Ben will be deeply missed and I am honoured I had the chance to meet him. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are such a beautiful soul.
